KEVIN Doolan has been given the go ahead to line up for Belle Vue against Pirates in the Knockout Cup.
But the Aussie, snapped up as Aces’ new number eight on Monday, may still not race against Poole Castle Cover at Wimborne Road on Wednesday.
That’s because he is already booked to feature in the Ashley Jones Memorial at King’s Lynn on the same night although Belle Vue would like him in their side at Poole.
Pirates had protested to the British Speedway Promoters’ Association that Doolan’s 2008 Premier League average of 10.32 was too high for them to sign him and take part in their cup quarter-final clash before the original first leg was rained-off on Monday.
Belle Vue had included him because they felt the rules dictated they could use his 2009 figure of 8.82 that would have been low enough.
The BSPA have ruled that both teams are right, that the rules are ambiguous and have given Belle Vue a 28-day facility to use Doolan.
Pirates host Belle Vue on Wednesday in what is now the first leg. No new date has been set for the second leg at Kirky Lane.
The winners meet Coventry in the semis, with Lakeside waiting in the final.
