ADAM Murry last night finally completed a deal to buy AFC Bournemouth and then vowed to put the club at the forefront of the community.
The Murry Group reached agreement for the purchase of the total shareholding in the club following weeks of protracted negotiations with departing owner Paul Baker.
News of the Murry Group’s proposed acquisition was revealed exclusively by the Daily Echo more than a week ago – and came following a dramatic twist in the takeover saga.
Murry has joined forces with millionaire Dorset property developer Eddie Mitchell who will take an active role in the day-to-day running of the club alongside his son-in-law Neill Blake.
Mitchell will relinquish his post as chairman of non-league Dorchester Town, while Blake will also step down as a director of the Conference South club.
Former Cherries directors Jeff Mostyn and Steve Sly also form part of the Murry Group and are expected to be appointed on to a newly-formed board at Dean Court.
The Murry Group, which had been actively trying to buy the club since the turn of the year, will officially take office on Monday.
Murry told the Daily Echo: "We are delighted the deal has finally come to fruition and are very much looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead. We realise these challenges will not be easy but will undertake to get the club back on an even keel as quickly as possible.
"We are not white knights and, contrary to what some people may believe, we were the only realistic deal on the table. We stuck with it through thick and thin while some parties fell by the wayside and others failed to deliver on their promises.
"We are confident we can get this club back where it belongs. It’s not going to be easy because it has had a rough ride for the past couple of years and we realise it is going to be an uphill task.
"Lots of things need to be sorted out and we will be addressing them in the fullness of time. Some are more pressing than others and, predictably, the urgent issues are mostly financial.
“Lots of questions also need answering and we will endeavour to do this when the time is right.
"We are determined for the club to be as successful off the pitch as we hope it will be on it.
“This club is an essential part of the community and lots of schemes will be launched to reflect this. We will be going out to schools to make sure this club is promoted.
"We need all the ill-feeling of the past to be confined to history.
“We want a positive mental attitude and want to make this club a major part of the community."
Murry confirmed that season tickets and tickets for Cherries friendlies would go on sale on Monday.
