LYMINGTON extended their lead at the top of A Section with a double-rink success over Broadstone. Kay Richardson’s rink (20-18) played the support role as Lymo mates Shirley Clark, Ngaio Mapes, Angela Eldridge and Jean Stopp (24-19) ended Broadstone’s hopes of any points.
Southbourne moved into second spot after crushing Braeside 58-18. Jill Gifford, Jean Howell, Barbara Lunnun, Olive Fidler and Sue Dadson’s rink of Shirley Winn, Liz Messer and Jan Dearling, shared top billing with identical scores (29-9).
Third-placed West Moors collected four points at Poole Park. Janet Price’s rink of Dot Eason, Val Baxter and Judith Miles (22-17) did sufficient to fend off the Lakesiders winner Penny Cresswell (22-19).
Richmond Park’s 4-2 (43-42) win at Redhill Park left the hosts languishing in the drop zone.
It all went down to the wire as Sue Dillon, Ann Devine, Linda Johnson and Elieen Deadman (24-21) picked up two on the last end to win the match for Richmond. Redhill’s Pat Horgan (21-19) denied the visitors a maximum haul.
B DIVISION
There was no seventh heaven for Swanmore who lost their unbeaten record at Ferndown 4-2 (36-32). Dorothy Alner, Margaret Roberts, Denise Madgewick and Barbara J Brown (25-11) were in fine fettle for Ferndown covering the Swans winning skip Rosie Lester 21-11.
Argyll followed up last week’s success by thrashing hosts Brockenhurst 6-0 (55-23). Norma Richens’s rink (21-14) supported their top rink of Nora King, Doris George, Peggy Budd and Joan Halliwell (34-9) to collect maximum points for Argyll.
Braeside and Broadstone both bottomed out 6-0 at home. Braeside are plummeting down the league after their third consecutive 6-0 defeat, this one 40-30 at the hands of visitors Richmond Park. Ann Ankers, Pam Draper, Pam Harrison and Jill Bryant (22-18) claimed top honours for Rich-mond, with back up proffered by Brenda Streater’s squad (18-16).
Broadstone’s losing margin was even greater (48-28) as Carrie Munday, Jean Moore, Marian Hammond and Val Charig (29-16) cut loose for Pelhams, with Mollie Lindsay (19-12) wrapping up the six points.
C DIVISION
It was six or nothing in this division as all games ended 6-0. Leaders Highcliffe set the pattern inflicting a 53-20 defeat on Fordingbridge. Rose Sullivan, Brenda King, Shirley Ambrose and Janet Emerson (29-9) blazed the trail for Val Snook’s rink (25-11) to follow.
Kings Park crashed in on Christchurch, as Mo Smith, Isabella McCafferty, Muriel Rose and Anne Ashcroft (32-11) spearheaded the attack.
The Bournemouth Belles ran rampant at Ringwood, as Brenda Halliday, Vilma Irish, Joan Cox and Kris Saunders (28-17) joined by Joan Belcher’s foursome (20-13) halted their recent bad run.
Lymington skips Ann Coles (20-14) and Ann Norris (20-15) guided their crews to a fine double success over New Milton, who returned home with nowt to show for their efforts.
Verwood joined in the fun as skips Pat Dowling (24-13) and Beryl Hopley (22-17) coxed their crews to a 6-0 home victory over Southbourne.
D DIVISION
Branksome Park’s first defeat came at nearby Alexandra Park, losing out 39-31. Gill Fagg’s rink of Jenny Cutler, Gill Hunnisett and Jenny Chalk (19-14) marked the way for fellow skip Dierdre Owen (20-17) to wrap up six points for Alex.
Pelhams I won at struggling Swanmore, as Joan Robins (26-15) and Jean Perry (20-18) trimmed the Swans’ feathers (46-33).
Milford-on-Sea skips Joan Moss (22-12) and Diana Goodyear (25-17) inspired their team to a sixth consecutive victory (47-29) at Argyll.
Pelhams II easily eclipsed visitors Redhill Park (43-23). Judy Jones, Ann Barber, Norma Grinter and Audrey Judge (21-9) combined with Wendy Watton’s wonders (22-14) to move their team into the top half of the table.
E DIVISION
The final unbeaten record fell with West Moors’ 4-2 success at Richmond Park. Host skip Ann Lodge guided her squad to a 16-13 win only to be overhauled by Moors’ winning rink of Marge Gardener, Jill Briggs, Carol Wright and Barbara Tite (23-15).
Poole Park took their chance and zipped into top spot with a 4-2 (40-32) victory at Iford Bridge with Rosemary Stainer, Anita Jones, Joan Eales and Gwyneth Foord (27-13) surpassing Iford’s winning score (19-13).
Lymington remain in the basement alongside Iford after losing 4-2 (35-34) at Southbourne. Club president Anthea Chilcott played lead in the winning rink with Sheila Hulland, Ann Laird and Jill Goodright (18-15) to just get the edge on Lymo’s winning skip Monica Glynn (19-17).
F DIVISION
Ferndown had a rest day, but remain at the head of affairs, especially as the next three teams all lost to the bottom-three teams by a 6-0 margin.
New Milton I went down on both rinks at West Moors (44-31). Sheila Rundle, Joan West, Penny Cook and Shirley Sadler (23-11) paved the way for the Moors victory, with Jill Archer’s rink (21-20) holding off a strong finish by her opposite number Chris Mays.
Shelley Park lost 41-35 in a close-fought match at Richmond Park. Despite Hildene Remnent, Chris Read, Yvette Bonner and Jean Sharp (20-16) and fellow skip Marie Crone (21-19) gaining maximum points, Richmond still remain at the foot of the table. Moordown moved away from the drop zone with a welcome 6-0 (45-24) win over Braeside. Barbara Roles, Liz Edmunds, Peggy Handley and Pat Masters (23-9) allied to Anita Howie’s rink (22-15) wrapped up the points.
G DIVISION
Redhill Park’s 5-1 victory over Branksome Park II did not truly reflect the overall score of 31-28. Val Griffiths, Angela Hopkins and Mary Pearce’s (16-13) win proved to be priceless as fellow skip Gladys Rolfe and Brank-some’s Hannah Rose fought out a (15-15) tie.
Poole Park’s Helen Winton, Hazel Dew and Barbara Gladwyn were ecstatic after their contribution (25-11) set the Lakesiders on course for a 46-20 win at Highcliffe. Mo Mowlam’s trio (21-9) rounded off a 6-0 victory. Argyll received a much-needed boost with their 5-1 success over Swanmore, with Margaret Gard-ner, Pat Clarke and Jean Gatrill (20-15) the cornerstone of the win.
