KINGSTON Lacy skipper Greg Parsons believes the next month will prove crucial as his side look to maintain their push for title glory.
Lacy lead the Dorset Sunday Division One standings, with their most recent success being a six-wicket victory over Henstridge.
But Parsons knows that his team’s credentials will be tested when they lose the likes of Simon Watkins, Nick Park and James Park to county and Twenty20 duty in the next few weeks.
“We’ve had a great start to the season and it’s how we get on now in the next month that will dictate how the season goes,” he admitted.
“Some of our better players go off and play other cricket, so we’ll see how we get on, but we’ve got a good squad.
“We have to deal with it every year and it depends how we do when they are missing to decide how we fare at the end of the season.”
Lacy’s latest win came against Henstridge, whose total of 165 proved too low to sufficiently trouble the Lacy batsmen.
Despite losing early wickets, the league leaders rallied and secured the victory.
n Teenager Harry Chalk shone on his first team debut as Parley ran out comfortable seven-wicket winners over Christchurch.
The youngster hit an unbeaten 56 as Parley chased down Priory’s 159 for the loss of just three wickets.
Roshan Embalagama (4-31) did the damage as Christchurch struggled with the bat, Tony Robinson’s 59 the only effort of real note.
And this total proved nowhere near enough as Chalk, supported by Tom Jacques (55) and Matt Stickland (28) helped see Parley home in the 25th over.
Parley skipper Darren Sargent said: “The league isn’t easy but it’s easy captaining the side when they’re performing well.
“On occasions we struggle to get sides out on a Sunday so we’re very, very happy.
“Sunday is an important day because, although we want to be competitive, we also give the youngsters and the players who are not playing well on Saturdays a chance to play.
“So, all in all, we’re very happy with our position.”
- Bournemouth’s unbeaten record remained intact as they hammered Studland at Chapel Gate.
The hosts’ 231 for seven was built around a number of decent contributions, the best of which came from middle order batsman Dean Pearce (55 from 53 deliveries).
And the verdict was never beyond doubt as Rob Coombs (4-28) ripped through the Studland line-up as they collapsed to 111 all out.
Alex Kennedy’s side are fourth in the table after the league hit them with a points deduction for the late payment of fees.
- Cranborne defeated Blandford – despite fine efforts from both Dan Brockway and Alex White.
Brockway (5-52) reduced Cranborne to 88 for five before a century stand between Carl Poore (56) and Dave Coy (34) lifted Cranborne to 201 all out.
Blandford skipper Alex White hit 91 but despite his heroics Blandford finished 10 runs short on 191 for six.
- Jamie Bennett’s 86 led Poole Town to a 51-run success over St Georges.
Bennett, ably assisted by John Pilley (52), helped Poole rack up 235 for five batting first.
In reply, St Georges (184-9) didn’t threaten the target as Andy Groom collected four wickets.
