LYMINGTON captain Christian Pain admitted to having “huge nerves” as his side almost threw away the opportunity of ending their winless run.
But fortunately for the SPL top-flight newcomers, Tommy Barton and Cameron Grierson kept their cool to help Lymo halt a three-match losing streak.
A comfortable victory looked on the cards after Australian ace Simon Cook (6-20) and Ed Freeman (3-14) destroyed the South Wilts batting line-up, skittling them for a lowly 125.
But Lymo found the going tough in reply until Pain (15), Grierson (25*) and Barton (25*) guided them over the line.
“Chasing 125, you maybe don’t expect to be worried, so the relief was a massive thing,” confessed Pain after his team’s first time pennant win of the campaign.
“Simon Cook and Ed Freeman were huge for us, then Tommy Barton and Cameron Grierson put on 42 for the eighth wicket to win the game.
“I was nervous even when I went out to bat at number six. It was really hard and we had to fight. There were definitely huge nerves, especially when you’ve bowled a side out for 125.”
- Bashley did not enjoy such good fortune as they slumped to a heavy defeat at the hands of Totton and Eling.
The New Forest outfit have no win in four outings after the 136-run loss.
They managed just 149 in reply to Totton’s formidable 285.
Captain Andy Neal was the star performer for Bash with five for 51.
