JOE Roach believes Cherries youngsters Joe Partington and Josh McQuoid both have bright futures ahead of them.

The homegrown prospects have both agreed terms – in principle – to stay at Dean Court.

Having guided the talented duo through the Dean Court youth ranks, Roach knows all about each of their attributes.

And the Cherries head of youth was delighted to hear the news that both had opted to stay.

Speaking about Partington, who Cherries boss Eddie Howe described as having an “important role” to play next term, Roach said: “I think he’s done really well.

“Every time he was called upon at first-team level he rose to the challenge.

“He was a bit hit and miss in some of the reserve games, but he’s really taken up the mantle in the first team environment.

“I know Eddie and Jason (Tindall) both like him and I think he could play a defensive role, as well as in midfield.”

And discussing McQuoid, Roach added: “I’m pleased he’s negotiated a deal.

“He’s a good addition to the squad and I think he can get better.”

Partington, who has agreed a new two-year contract, is a Welsh youth international who can play either in central midfield or in the heart of the defence.

Northern Ireland B forward McQuoid, who is set to sign for another season, hit the headlines when he scored twice for the country’s under-21s against Scotland last term.

He made 22 appearances for Cherries last season while Partington featured in 13 matches, scoring once.
