BRENDON Daniel has indicated Oakmeadians would be willing to play in midweek under floodlights to get their delayed Dorset & Wilts Cup tie against Salisbury out of the way.

The quarter-final has been called off twice, first when Salisbury had a re-arranged league match that took precedence, then when the Meyrick Park pitch was frozen.

So there is now a sense of urgency to get a fixture that should originally have been contested on November 21 completed in time for the winners to host Swanage & Wareham in the semi-final on February 6.

Daniel, whose side are currently fifth in South West One East, said: “I think they (the Dorset & Wilts Rugby Football Union) are talking about trying to rearrange the tie for midweek.

“If we have to play fixtures and get them out of the way, we will because we want to tailor ourselves to go with what the league and county want to do.

“Because we haven’t got floodlights, we’d play in midweek on a neutral ground. But we wouldn’t want to switch the tie to the other team’s ground because that would defeat the object of being drawn at home in the cup.

“Every Saturday between now and February 6 is taken up with league matches, so realistically if they want it played by then, it will have to be midweek, most likely on a Wednesday.”

Chippenham host Bournemouth in the other semi-final next month.

Wimborne’s Southern Counties South home clash against Corsham tomorrow has been postponed, as has North Dorset’s encounter against Minety at Slaughtergate.
