LOAN star Rhoys Wiggins helped Cherries successfully complete their promotion mission and then admitted he felt like a permanent member of Eddie Howe’s squad.
Wiggins has made 30 appearances in two spells for Cherries, playing more times for Howe’s men than he has for parent club Norwich and former employer Crystal Palace.
The 22-year-old left-back, who starred during the closing stages of Cherries’ escape from relegation last season, repeated his heroics after being brought back by Howe in February.
Wiggins, one of only four emergency loan signings sanctioned during the club’s transfer embargo, told the Daily Echo: “The players make me feel like I’m one of them. We do a lot together as a squad and a few are from where I come from in London so that makes it a lot easier as well.
“Most of my appearances have come for Bournemouth so I’m glad Eddie brings me down and gives me the chance. He has been great for progressing my career so far and I can’t thank him and Jason enough.”
Wiggins added: “The win against Burton reminded me of the end of last season but for even better reasons. I enjoyed every minute of it, especially the end.
“The game went to plan and we knew we would probably need the three points to make sure. I don’t think Eddie knew that we knew, but some of us knew that Rotherham were winning at half-time.
“That just encouraged us and spurred us on to get the three points. We knew what we had to do and knew we couldn’t rely on anyone else.”
Wiggins, whose parent club Norwich were crowned champions of League One on Saturday, added: “It was a bit disappointing that I wasn’t involved in that. The lads at Norwich have done brilliantly and I can’t praise them enough, as well as the lads here. This means a little bit more to me because I have played a part in it.
“I’m just pleased for both clubs and the work-rate, both here and at Norwich, is the sign of a successful team. The lads here have always been together. Eddie and Jason have always programmed that into us. There has been more excitement about the place this season because it was a little anxious last season. I’m just so pleased for everyone.”
Cherries supporters again chanted for Howe to make Wiggins a permanent addition in the summer and the defender said: “It does mean a lot and is nice to feel appreciated. The crowd have been fantastic with me and have given me a lot of confidence.
“I honestly haven’t got a clue about next season. I’ve spoken to my agent and he has been top-drawer. We’re just going to see what the summer brings. I would never rule it out. Bournemouth have been brilliant for me and I have enjoyed both spells here.”
Wiggins is due to complete his latest spell with Cherries following the visit of Port Vale.
