CRAIG Boyce believes Jason Doyle has come of age this year and rewarded the Pirates star with a first ever call-up into Australia’s World Team Cup squad.

Doyle will be joined in the Aussies’ 10-strong line-up by his Poole Castle Cover team-mates Chris Holder, Davey Watt and Darcy Ward.

Aussie team manager Boyce still has a week to confirm the rest of his squad, but revealed the Dorset club’s quartet are all in his plans for next month’s competition.

He is delighted with the way they have gelled at Wimborne Road this term, helping to fire Pirates to the top of the Elite League.

Holder, who lines up in the Torun Grand Prix tonight (6pm), and Watt are almost certain to feature alongside big guns Jason Crump and Leigh Adams in the cup.

Ex-King’s Lynn duo Ward or Troy Batchelor will probably get the nod for the fifth and final team spot for the Aussies’ round one opener against Great Britain, Sweden and Finland at Saddlebow Road on July 26.

That would leave Doyle and the likes of Ryan Sullivan, Adam Shields, Rory Schlein, Cameron Woodward, Cory Gathercole and Ty Proctor battling it out to be on standby for the race-off and final at Vojens on July 29 and 31.

Talking about 24-year-old Doyle, who has impressed for Pirates on his return from long-term injury, Boyce said: “Doyley is in my squad.

“He has had a good run for Poole, and as long as he keeps his head down, tries to stay safe and finishes the season, he will be back to his best after being out for more than a year.

“Jason’s shown he’s an Elite League rider. He is coming of age.

“He’s had a few knocks but has been doing his job this year.”

Holder heads for Torun in eighth place in the individual World Championship standings.

He goes out in heat three against Chris Harris, Piotr Protasiewicz and championship leader Jarek Hampel, while Poole’s Artur Mroczka is first reserve.
