COLIN Randall was a happy man after producing an inspired captain’s innings to finally end Wimborne and Colehill’s long search for victory.

The Premier Division strugglers climbed off the bottom after registering their maiden success of the campaign at the eighth attempt.

They leapfrogged Marnhull after defeating their rivals by five wickets in a triumph that owed much to the return to form of skipper Randall.

He struck 88 as his men successfully replied to Marnhull’s 184 on Saturday.

“We were pleased,” said Randall. “We went into the game expecting to win.

“We were underachieving massively and we turned in a good performance.

“It was a game we went into with a lot of belief and we |were pleased to actually get it done.”

Jack Worpole (3-46) and Dave Hills (3-42) led the way with the ball – with Gary Jones and Tom Heyes also claiming two wickets apiece – as Marnhull were knocked over for 184.

Then Randall struck his first half-century of the season to lead from the front in reply. Rob Hatchard (41*) helped guide Wimborne home.

“It’s not been a prolific season like last season, so it was nice to get a decent score on the board,” admitted Randall.

“It was my first 50 of the season on a Saturday. It has been a bit of a slow start.”

• Leaders Parley maintained their slender advantage at the top after a hard-fought two-wicket success over Broadstone at The Delph.

Dorset star Raj Naik was again a central figure, claiming six for 28 with his spin bowling to help restrict the hosts to 223 for nine. Parley then reached their target with more than six overs remaining.

Matt Thomas (53) and Jon Powell (66) were the mainstays of the Broadstone innings, as Naik and Matt Stickland (2-53) did most of the damage.

Steve Trembath and rookie spinner Joe Manley then took two wickets apiece but could not prevent defeat.

Mark Elliott (37), Robbie Gunn (33), Naik (31) and Roshan Embalagama (31) all contributed as Parley scored steadily to secure victory.

Poole Town remained hot on Parley’s heels with a resounding victory over Blandford.

The title hopefuls produced a dominant display to win by 76 runs, dismissing Blandford for 189 after racking up 265 for eight.

Dan Brockway showed some resistance with a half-century, but he could not halt the Poole charge.

• In-form Dorchester eased to a third consecutive win with a crushing 140-run victory over Ferndown Wayfarers.

Ferndown were skittled for 143 in reply to the county town outfit’s impressive 283 for six.
