NEWLY-promoted Southbourne celebrated a seventh consecutive Section One win after defeating Ringwood 10-4 (94-72). Captain Chris Dowding led from the front, with his rink of Archie Nisbett, Dave McKenna and Keith Norman collecting a fifth end hot-shot in their 43-15 win.

Alexandra Park hung on to second spot after Bournemouth once again fell away after tea to lose 87-71. Barry Dawson, Alan Trevett, Dave Hodgkiss and Paul King (28-16) headed Alex’s three winning rinks.

And on the last end, Alex skip Mark Wanklin held three shots, went for the kill, only to clip the jack and leave Terry Chivers’s rink 19-15 winners.

Poole Park stayed in contention by collecting 12 points at Wimborne. A classic performance from Billy Shylock, Jack Smith, Paul Spetch and Peter Willetts (90-74) featured in the Dolphins’ 90-74 win.

Boscombe Cliff returned to winning form after Darren Clarke’s quartet racked up a 33-15 win in the 14-0 (100-77) victory at Branksome Park. At one stage, the Squirrels were in with a shout for six points but Paul Tidby, leading 20-19, lost 24-21 to Michael Hutley. Cliff skips Chris Daniels and Alan Geary then held on to win 22-21 and 21-20.

Knyveton Gardens followed up last week’s win by collecting all 14 points against Electric. Roy Leake, Mike Beales, Tony Davis and Martin Brierley (40-12) picked up the rosette in the Gardeners’ winning total of 99-57.

SECTION TWO

Leaders New Milton suffered a 12-2 set back at Pelhams. Evan Alner, Jim Widdicombe, Cyril Jeans and Bob Robbins (21-10) top-scored in the hosts’ 85-52 victory, but Tony Reed denied Pelhams the maximum with a 20-19 last-end win.

West Moors went top after winning two rinks and sharing another against visitors Southbourne A. Frank Partridge, Charles Leonard, Eric Cook and Mike Burfield (30-15) set up the Moors’ 92-64 success. Southbourne skip Ian Messer recovered from 15-7 to tie 16-16.

The only home defeat came at Kings Park, where Fordingbridge came away with a 10-4 victory. Richard Hindley, Jim Wych, Des Jarvis and Derek Purse (32-7) contributed most to the Turks’ winning total of 84-71.

Broadstone-Wessex moved off the bottom after their 12-2 (83-69) win over Braeside. John Hall, Dave Edwards, Clive Smith and Trevor Smyth (27-12) top-scored for the hosts.

Poole Park A notched a 12-2 success over Lymington. Gordon Wheatley, Dave Stiggins, Eric Hawes and Ron Hobby (31-13) were the Dolphins’ top rink, while Lymo’s resistance came from Roy Richardson’s crew (24-16).

SECTION THREE

A top-two clash resulted in a 14-0 (79-63) win for Redhill Park over Knyveton Gardens. Top honours went to Redhill’s David Mould, Alan Stokes, Darrel Reed and Bob Kitchenham (23-15).

Moordown completed a comprehensive 12-2 (93-63) victory at Richmond Park, where Tony White, George Webb, John Humber and Alan Tavener cruised to a 30-9 win.

Malcolm Perkins, Roy Lock, Ray Daniels and Keith Varley (25-19) inspired Boscombe Cliff A to an 89-75 win over Branksome Park A. Peter Gregory (22-18) helped ensure all 14 points.

George Smith’s crew of Terry Tuck, Roy Thompson and Alan Piper called the tune for Swanmore in their three-rink win over Swanage, triumphing 33-7 in the 105-48 scorcher.

Iford Bridge, meanwhile, had to settle for two points from John Davis’s rink after Iford’s other three rinks were swept away at Braeside. Dave Deller, Jeff Sheppard, Phil Hobby and Pat Day (33-10) led the Carpetbaggers to a 91-55 victory.

SECTION FOUR

West Moors A went down 81-62 to Christchurch. The Priory combination of Steve Burns, Graham Hicks, Bill Whitcher and Ken Dean (22-11) paved the way for the hosts’ win.

Poole Park B closed the gap with a four-rink victory at Ringwood. Barry Gage’s squad of Andy Richardson, Bill Ogden and Norman Austin motored in with a 27-8 tally in the 108-47 win.

Elsewhere, Highcliffe recorded a 78-60 win at New Milton. Graham Stride, Ken Collier, John Emerson and David Vincent (24-11) laid the foundations.

A close encounter at Meyrick resulted in Bournemouth just getting their noses in front of Broadstone Wessex to win 81-78. Maurice Little, Maurice Haynes, Jim Dustan and Dave Sewell gave the best return in Bournemouth’s 10-4 victory.

Milford-on-Sea’s 10-4 (79-72) home win over Argyll lifted them out of the bottom two, with Roger Christie, Alan Edmunds, Tim Capron and Dave Hall (26-15) giving the Seasiders the advantage.

SECTION FIVE

Wimborne A secured a 12-2 (96-67) victory at Southbourne after Peter Laundon’s rink of Kevin O’Connell, Malcolm Bray and Roger Gallop trotted in a 26-12.

Ferndown, meanwhile, went down 93-69 to Redhill Park, with David Rawlings, Derek Savage, Roy Sargant and Pat Kellaway (29-11) starring for Redhill.

Kings Park A mustered only four points in their 78-74 defeat at New Milton after Frank Dowsett, Les Welland, Bill Poulson and Martin Wallis (25-13) starred for the hosts.

Knyveton Gardens B lost 10-4 (78-65) at home to Pelhams A, with Rob Traxler, Charlie Loader, Mike Barrett and Roy Pearce top-scoring for Pelhams.

SECTION SIX

Poole Park C stayed top after their 12-2 (76-64) defeat of Swanmore A. Andy Walsh, Bill Baker, Martin Butcher and Bob Roper (25-15) tied up the Dolphins’ win.

Lymington closed the gap on the leaders with a maximum haul against Southbourne C, with Frank Johnston, Arthur Baker, Norman Caulfield and Danny Watson (31-9) hogging the spotlight in the 107-45 triumph.

Highcliffe A stayed in contention following their 12-2 home win over Wimborne. The biggest winners for Highcliffe in their narrow 72-67 victory were Laurie Cook, Douglas Blunden, Peter Loffler and Bryan Giltrow (18-13).

Ron Morris’s squad of Ron Hutchings, Elfed Adams and Digby Crane (19-12) gave Iford Bridge a lift and inspired them to an 80-76 win over Ferndown A.

A fifth home win in this division saw Argyll register a 12-2 (91-65) victory over Branksome Park B.
