DAVEY Watt could be in line for a shock Grand Prix debut at the Millennium Stadium.

Pirates’ captain is second reserve for this year’s World Championship series after finishing high up in the GP Challenge at Coventry in October.

And, having never raced in a GP before, the Aussie ace is on stand-by to line up at Cardiff on July 10 if injuries to Emil Sayfutdinov and Watt’s Poole Castle Cover team-mate Chris Holder keep them out.

First reserve Piotr Protasiewicz has replaced Sayfutdinov, who has a broken arm, in the last two rounds at Torun and Copenhagen.

But it is understood the Pole has decided to stand down from his GP duties, leaving the way open for Watt to be called in make his GP bow in front of a 40,000-plus crowd inside the Millennium.

Ironically, Poole’s skipper had pulled out of this year’s 2011 GP qualifiers because he didn’t want to take part in the Australian rounds last winter.

Holder, who sustained muscle damage and heavy bruising to his left arm after being hit hard by Greg Hancock’s footrest at full speed at Torun on Saturday, will try and make a comeback in the Polish League on Sunday.
