DORSET star Lee James breezed to his biggest win of the season as he tamed the strong winds at Cumberwell Park to secure a Jamega Tour victory.
The Broadstone touring professional carded rounds of 66 and 69 to clinch the £5,000 first prize.
James’s success was built on a remarkable five-under-par opening round on a blustery day that saw only seven players in red figures.
His blemish-free round gave him a three-shot advantage at the halfway stage.
“I put in a solid all-round performance with five birdies and no bogeys in very difficult conditions,” said the former British Amateur champion.
James sealed the victory on the second day with an eagle at the 11th and drove the par-four 17th to set up a birdie.
He finished three shots ahead of Dale Whitnell, who shared the lead with James after 14 holes before a poor finish scuppered his chances.
James’s next port of call is another Jamega Tour event at The Shire next Monday and Tuesday.
“My ultimate aim is to earn enough money to go back to the Tour School and win back my European Tour privileges,” said James, who is a six-time winner on the Challenge Tour.
