RHOYS Wiggins has set his sights on realising his Championship dream with Cherries after pledging his “100 per cent commitment” to the promotion cause.

Wiggins rocked the club in March when he handed in a shock transfer request after Watford had tabled two bids for the former Norwich and Crystal Palace defender.

The Hornets had two offers of around £150,000 rejected, with their valuation falling well short for a player Cherries had signed for £40,000 in the summer.

Wiggins remains under contract to Cherries until June 2012, while the club is also believed to have an option to extend his stay by an additional 12 months.

Speaking to the Daily Echo at the club’s play-off press call on Monday, Wiggins said: “You want to play as high as you can and the aim at the moment is to reach the Championship with Bournemouth.

“I have never said I was not happy here. When these opportunities arise, you are never sure whether they will come around again. The goal is to get into the Championship with Bournemouth and I am 100 per cent committed to that.

“Football is a short career and, if you want to progress, you have to take opportunities when they come. I want to get into the Championship and, in the long run, into the Premier League. Whoever I can do it with, brilliant. If it is Bournemouth, even better.

“I always give 100 per cent. I have never gone into a game and given anything less. It wasn’t the case that I said to the manager that I wouldn’t play for the club if they didn’t let me go. I want to play and am 100 per cent committed, all the time.”

Wiggins, who has been restricted by injury to just four appearances since tabling his transfer request, heads into the play-offs on good form after being voted man of the match in Cherries’ 2-1 defeat by Rochdale on Saturday.

He added: “I have had a few injuries but am feeling good now. The two games before the play-offs will have helped my fitness and my performance against Rochdale has given me confidence.

“We have already achieved something by making the play-offs. Everybody can be proud of themselves but we want to achieve more. There is another task to be completed.

“Huddersfield have been on a good run in the league but it is almost a cup competition now. Full credit to them for what they did during the season but it is a different situation now. They will have a lot more pressure on them because we are the underdogs.

“We held our own against them in two games during the season and that will give us confidence.”
