THERE is an unfamiliar look to the top of Section One as Ringwood set the pace following a comfortable 12-2 win over West Moors.
Richard Lawrence, Barrie Seymour, Derek Faulkner and Steve Van Wyk (29-12) were the cornerstone of the Foresters’ 86-62 victory, while Ray Hunt (23-13) salvaged two points for Moors.
Branksome Park took second spot after their narrow 10-4 (70-66) win over Knyveton Gardens. Geoff Shand, Ray Gollup, Ernie Culley and Barry Stone (23-9) were the stimulus for the Squirrels’ triumph. Martin Brierley (26-14) topped the Gardeners’ efforts.
Boscombe Cliff maintained their unbeaten record by defeating Alexandra Park 12-2 (78-71) on their own patch. Ron Sparks, John Turgel, Stan Jordan and Alan Geary registered Cliff’s main contribution. Steve Chalker’s squad (23-17) saved Alex from a total wipe-out.
After an opening day defeat, Poole Park bounced back with a 10-4 win over Southbourne. For the Dolphins Peter Willats’s crew of Bob Atkins, Clive Faulkes and Billy Shylock were in a miserly mood, winning 28-7. Southbourne’s best effort came from Brian Jones (26-19) as the Towermen tumbled to an 89-68 loss.
Bournemouth shared rinks with visitors Lymington after Lymo skip Roy Richardson gained a last-end 20-19 success. But thanks to an inspirational 33-10 from Barry James, John Cuff, Ian Rawlinson and Vic Druce, Bournemouth emerged as 87-64 winners.
• Wimborne head the proceedings in Section Two after a narrow 76-72 victory over visitors Swanmore. Right at the death, Minster skip Jim Garrett picked up three shots to tie his rink, ensuring the Minstermen of an 11-3 triumph.
Wimborne’s Roy Campbell, Brian Wilkins, Roger Gallop and John Pudney carded a 22-16 win.
Kings Park retained their unbeaten tag by defeating hosts Electric 10-4. Gerry Hardy, Barry Hiscock, Andy Darch and Roy Simpson (22-13) paved the way for the Royals’ 82-75 success.
Len Johnson, Nigel Peaty, Ron Johnson and Roger Herlihy (30-10) set New Milton up for an 89-62 victory at Boscombe Cliff. Host skip Derek Pavey held on to win 22-21 and deny the visitors a clean sweep.
The Broadstone-Wessex combination of Chris Lawrence, Brad White, Harry Hinton and Roy Lench (20-13) swung the match at Southbourne the Wessex way, with the visitors coming out on top 10-4 (66-60).
At Pelhams, Fordingbridge wiped out the memories of last week’s 14-0 defeat by winning on all four rinks.
The ‘Man from OZ’ Ron Barclay, Brian Waldman, Tim Westbury and John Woodward (31-13) spurred the Turks on to a 97-50 success.
• Poole Park A suffered carpet burns as they nosedived to a 14-0 (93-52) defeat at Braeside in Section Three. Ian Cameron, Tony Brunt, John Phipps and Neil Rogers (27-13) steered their team into top spot.
Knyveton Gardens A moved into second place with a 77-72 win over visitors Richmond Park. HQ were ahead on all four rinks after 12 ends, but a powerful finish, spearheaded by Roy Fenton, Ken Budd, John Lee and Adam Broom (23-15) saw the Gardeners through to a 12-2 win.
Highcliffe kept up their winning ways with a 12-2 success at Iford Bridge. Trevor Welch, Jim Wilson, Derek Weaver and John Irons (26-8) gave the Castlemen the impetus to go on and win 95-57.
Moordown got their first taste of victory when defeating hosts Redhill Park 10-4. The main contributors to Moordown’s 80-76 win were Tony White, Bill Humphrey, Franks Sheppard and Stuart Affleck (23-15).
West Moors A also notched their first win, 10-4 (83-69), after Arthur Baxter’s squad of Terry Hester, Mike Tappenden and Bill Archer hit the target with a 23-13 tally against neighbours Braeside.
• Branksome A remained unbeaten in Section Four after achieving a 79-72 victory at Milford-on-Sea. David Hall (24-17) headed two home winning rinks. However, Branksome captured the 10 points thanks mainly to Steve Flay, Danny Newman, Chris Harding and Tony Matthews (29-12) Wimborne A hit the only ‘ton-up’ of the day, when winning 14-0 (104-63) at Swanage. Wimborne’s Kevin O’Connell, George Becking, John Welch and Percy Swinson (30-12) came away with top honours.
Poole Park B now have points on the board after their 11-3 (75-62) home win over Argyll. Dave Pearce, Mick Wallis, Ron New-bury and Howard Patch stitched up the opposition to win 24-8.
John Bishop’s rink (26-13) gave Christchurch a fighting chance at Ferndown, but three winning rinks topped by Peter Sayer, Peter Payne, Peter Dodd and Colin Proctor (24-11) saw the Stags cruise to an 81-67 win.
• Southbourne B made it two out of two in Section Five after defeating Knyveton Gardens on three rinks. Bob Pardy, Peter Gower, Scott Biden and Ian Messer (27-12) put the Towermen on course for 95-65 triumph.
Broadstone-Wessex A also remained unbeaten after their 11-3 (89-73) win over Ringwood. Jack Thornton, Bernard Sturgess, John Phelan and Mike Sabine (30-15) were top rink for Wessex. Ringwood’s Brian Terry recovered from a 10-22 deficit to earn a 23-23 tie.
Pelhams A returned from Boscombe Cliff with 12 points after Tom Wood, Dave Shutler, Charlie Loader and Dave Hilton (20-14) laid the foundations for a 79-70 win. Mike Drage salvaged two points for the Cliff.
Redhill Park skip Edgar Kerley’s bagged a last-end tie to deny Lymington a full house, as his team slumped to an 88-67 defeat. Lymo’s top scorers were Geoff Jessop, Ed Burrows, Norman Caulfield and Les Ford (26-13).
• It was a good day for Branksome Park. Their B team completed a hat-trick of victories for the club with a 12-2 win at Richmond Park in Section Six. For the second week in a row Colin Taylor, Brian Simpkin, Stan Tucker and John Woollcott (36-14) took top honours as the Squirrels won by 92-64.
Ferndown A shared rinks at Swanmore, but came away with the 10 points. The Stags clipped the Swans’ wings to win 70-62 thanks to the efforts of Terry Barter, Mike Tate, Neil Bennett and Brian Roberts (19-9).
Iford Bridge A were swamped at Kings Park, going down on all four rinks. The floodgates were opened by Dennis Poole, Derek Place, Barry Goodwin and John Monk (25-10) as the Royals romped to an 81-78 win.
Southbourne C have now suffered consecutive defeats following their 12-2 (74-62) setback at Wimborne. Dave Hallett, Doug Cheney, Phil White and Barry Smith (26-8) won top honours for the Minstermen.
Argyll’s first success of the season came at the expense of Poole Park C. Brian Collier, John Buckley, Tony Gerry and Derek Chant (25-16) were on song in the 10-4 (81-78) home victory.
