DORSET teenager Georgia Hall carded her lowest-ever score for 18 holes to win the strokeplay stage of the English Championship at West Sussex yesterday.
The reigning English U15 champion shot an amazing six-under-par 66 to qualify in first place for today’s knockout matchplay phase.
Hall reached the turn in level par after two birdies and bogeys, before six birdies gave her a 31 on the home stretch and her best nine holes to date.
“I didn’t think I would shoot that low, I just wanted to be level par or round about. Now I’ve got to get the matchplay right,” said the Remedy Oak star, who finished on three under par after 36 holes.
Hall was due to meet Newark’s Emma Sheffield in today’s first round of the matchplay.
The top 32 players from the first two days strokeplay qualified for the knockout stage that concludes with the final on Saturday.
Reigning champion Hayley Davis, from Ferndown, was the fifth best qualifier on level par and plays fellow Dorset player Sophie Keech (Lyme Regis) today.
