DAVEY Watt believes the world’s Grand Prix stars should be wary of his Australian compatriot Chris Holder.
The Pirates number one will tonight line up in the second round of the 2011 series in Gothenburg, Sweden.
In his rookie world championship season last term, Holder starred and finished the campaign in eighth position after winning the coveted British GP.
The 23-year-old began this year’s series with nine points from his five qualifying rides in Poland but was knocked out in Leszno on count-back.
However, Poole captain Watt, who has seen his Wimborne Road colleague make an impressive start to the Elite League campaign, thinks Holder is a man to watch this year.
Watt told the Echo: “He has gone from hoping to score a handful of points in the GPs to now expecting semi-finals and finals.
“He is a far different rider to what he was last year and has, without a doubt, cemented himself as one of the top riders in the world.
“Guys are going to have to look at him now and think ‘this is going to be a hard race because I am against Chris Holder’.
“He has come on leaps and bounds.”
Watt added: “I think he is doing better than he did last year.
“It is a goal for him to improve year on year, as it is for every rider.
“His confidence, riding ability and everything about his speedway and character has grown.
“It is great for me to see and great for him on the track.”
