SEAGULLS combined quantity and quality to add another trophy to their cabinet at the Swim Bournemouth 1st Junior Open Meet.
The Christchurch club fielded a large team at Littledown and amassed a huge tally of medals and other good placings to collect the award for the Top Visiting Club.
In fact their total points tally of 935 was four times that of nearest challengers Tornadoes of South Dorset with 238 and Poole on 203.
Seagulls’ points tally included a hefty contribution from Ben Wickens, although he has recently switched clubs to join Swim Bournemouth.
Wickens – entered as a Seagull but wearing Bournemouth colours – received the award for the Top Boy of the meet after winning the 13yrs 50, 100 and 200m freestyle, 50 and 100m breastsroke, 50m butterfly and 200m individual medley.
Top Girl was his new Swim Bournemouth team-mate Eleanor Devine, who won the 11yrs 50, 100 and 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke and 200m breaststroke.
Other multiple gold medallists included Seagulls’ Bethan O’Hara and Swim Bournemouth’s Jack Simpkins and Jazmine Hepburn with five victories each.
O’Hara won the 12yrs 50 and 100m freestyle, 100m backstroke and butterfly and 200m medley, Simpkins the 12yrs 50 and 100m butterfly, 50 and 100m breaststroke and 200m medley, Hepburn the 13yrs 50 and 100m breaststroke, 50m freestyle and butterfly and 200m medley.
Five Seagulls achieved four wins each – Christopher Wells in the 14yrs 50m backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly and 100m freestyle, Megan Chapman in the 15yrs 50m backstroke and freestyle and 100m breaststroke and butterfly, Abbie Noyce in the 10/u 50m butterfly and backstroke, 100m freestyle and 200m medley, Ben Price in the 14yrs 50 and 200m freestyle, 100m breaststroke and 200m medley and Lydia Witney, who won the 16yrs 50m event on each of the four competitive strokes.
Swim Bournemouth’s Jack Olden was another quadruple winner as he took gold in the 10/u 50 and 100m freestyle and 50m breaststroke and butterfly.
Triple winners included Seagulls’ Luke Roxburgh in the 12yrs 100 and 200m freestyle and 50m backstroke, Leanna Galton in the 13yrs 50 and 100m backstroke and 200m freestyle, Ellen Broadfield in the 10/u 50 and 100m breaststroke and 50m freestyle, Rachael Awcock in the 14yrs 50m backstroke and breaststroke and 200m medley and Darren Price in the 15yrs 50m breaststroke and butterfly and 100m backstroke.
Kyran Yeatman topped Poole’s medal tally with gold in the 15yrs 50 and 100m freestyle and 100m butterfly while team-mate Gemma Norman won the 11yrs 100m butterfly and 200m medley.
Seren Banneel won four golds for North Dorset Turboes in the 11yrs 50 and 100m freestyle and breaststroke, while Wareham’s leading medallist was Oliver Haysom with gold in the 16yrs 50m backstroke, butterfly and freestyle.
