SKIPPER Alex White slammed Blandford’s “dismal” display and admitted things could yet get worse for his struggling side.

White was far from impressed by his team’s performance against Suttoners as they failed to build on back-to-back wins.

Having secured two consecutive victories, including one over title contenders Poole Town, White was reasonably confident ahead of Saturday’s clash.

But his bullish mood and Blandford’s good run was ended in emphatic fashion by Suttoners, who recorded a handsome 121-run win after racking up a formidable 262 for seven batting first.

White, a teacher at Bovington Middle School, told the Echo: “After beating Poole the previous week, it was a dismal performance.

“We’re struggling with players. And one of our main opening bowlers, Richie Thomas, is off to Camp America, so things could get worse!

“Availability is an issue, but we still managed to beat Poole, so on our day we have got good players.”

Basement boys Ferndown Wayfarers, the only team below Blandford in the top-flight table, are next up for White and his men.

The 27-year-old, who has played in the Dorset Premier since the age of 15, added: “If you had asked me on Friday night, I would have been feeling really confident because we had won two on the trot. I started thinking things were fine and then we went and put in a batting display like we did on Saturday.”

Suttoners were indebted to an exceptional opening stand between Ashley Wallace (85) and Aaron Brown (83), who shared 150 for the first wicket.

Chris Rawlings, who smashed 43 off 20 deliveries, then took centre stage with the ball to claim four wickets as Blandford were skittled for 141.

Paul Barber (3-23) and Paul McCann (2-36) also got in on the act, with only Blandford wicketkeeper Stuart Robbins (38) emerging with credit.

• Big guns Parley and Poole Town are level at the top after both recorded victories in the latest round of matches.

Parley enjoyed a narrow seven-run win over Wimborne and Colehill after a rain delay had reduced the contest to 43 overs per side. Sam Collins (52) and Rob Gunn (52*) top-scored in the defending champions’ total of 212 for five, before the second of three run-outs saw the Wimborne chase fade as they lost six wickets in eight overs.

Poole, meanwhile, also made it five wins in seven outings by defeating struggling Ferndown Wayfarers by seven wickets.

Neil Sexton (41*), Chris Armstrong (30) and Richie Sellars (21) helped Ferndown to 184 (Ciaran Quinn 3-26, Kristian Wilson 2-18).

But Poole got home with seven wickets to spare, thanks largely to Martin Miller (47*), Ben Rogers (45), Dave Robjohns (29) and Quinn (28).

Broadstone’s clash at Stalbridge fell victim of the wet weather.
