BOURNEMOUTH Alliance member Jon Bevan (Wessex Golf Centre) claimed his first win of the season at the 36-hole North Wilts pro-am. He shot two rounds of 71 on a day of gusty showers that prompted one brief stoppage because of a threat of thunder and lightening.
He denied his club colleague Michael Watson his third win in a row by one shot and took home £557. Watson’s 143, from rounds of 72 and 71, brought a share of second place in an event dominated by Dorset players who each won more than £300.
Former European Tour winner Gary Emerson (Remedy Oak), who has steadfastly supported the region despite finding consistency a problem, shot 71 and 72.
Last year’s winner Paul Jones (Canford Magna) who followed a best of the morning 69 with 74, and Lee Thompson (Dudsbury) with 72 and 71 also shared. Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) was eighth on 69 and 76, earning £190.
Watson shot 65, worth £172, Howell 66 for £138 and Thompson 67 for £82 in the Vivary Park pro-am at the tough Taunton course.
