Bournemouth made it five wins on the trot in Section One to pull level with Knyveton Gardens by defeating Branksome Park 12-2.

Barry James, John Cuff, Phil Pugh and Vic Druce (19-9) set up the Marauders’ 79-69 victory. Skip Terry Chivers added to the points tally recovering from a 19-17 deficit to win 21-20.

Knyveton Gardens came a cropper, going down 10-4 at home to bogey team Lymington. Rob Hillier, Bill Merrett, John Kitcher and Ian Shiell (32-16) featured in Lymo’s 92-77 victory. Gardeners skip John Kellow (23-19) salvaged two points after collecting seven shots over the last two ends.

Southbourne, meanwhile, could only muster two points at Ringwood. Foresters Richard Lawrence, John Stone, Steve Van Wyk and Ted Hangar (27-9) were in full flight with Barry Horne who, after being 19-10 down, won 22-19.

Boscombe Cliff got back on track with a 14-0 (97-56) win at West Moors. Cliff’s best return came from Ron Sparks, David Burgess, John Turgel and Stan Jordan (30-6). Bob Sprules chipped in with two shots on the last end to win 17-16.

Alexandra Park played at Poole Park with one player short. As a result of the 25 per cent reduction rule, they lost 10-4. Steve Chalker’s 23-19 win was reduced to 17.25-19, giving the Dolphins the match 75-72.25.

• New Milton stayed top of Section Two even after losing 10-4 at Fordingbridge. Turks’ combination of Stan White, Cyril Copp, Brian Cuckson and Bob Mellors (27-6) received the garlands. Ken Wright (21-17) was spot-on for Highcliffe.

There was a late winner for Swanmore at Southbourne. Richard Free’s rink (20-13) kept Swanmore in touch before George Smith, with the last wood of the match, collected three shots to give the Swans a 10-4 (67-66) victory.

At Wimborne, a 28-13 surge from Doug Lewis, David Shepherd, Roger Gallop and Colin Shew blew Electric’s fuses. The Minstermen ran out 10-4 (90-78) winners despite a 26-15 return from Sparkies skip Mike Elkins.

Pelhams notched their first ton when dispatching Boscombe Cliff A to the drop zone 12-2 (101-44). Top billing went to Pelhams’ quartet of Ron Banks, Brian Skyvington, Phil Jeans and Dave Kerr (31-3).

Broadstone Wessex eased to a 13-1 (90-70) win over bottom club Kings Park. Dave Tregunno, Dave Gibb, Dave Edwards and Trevor Smyth (30-15) were the pick of the Wessex men’s three winning rinks.

• There were consecutive ‘ton-ups’ for Section Three leaders Braeside who crushed their A side 14-0 (107-52). David Deller, Ted Spiby, Peter Knight and Gary Koch (34-14) led the rout, which was halted for 20 minutes by a deluge.

Knyveton A, meanwhile, returned to winning ways with a 12-2 success at Iford Bridge. A strong finish from Iain Fraser, Mike Wilkins, Ron Roberts and Simon Lapenne (33-13) ensured the Gardeners of an 84-67 win.

Poole Park A and Richmond Park kept in touch with leaders with victories over Moordown and Highcliffe.

The Dolphins shared rinks at Moordown, but a 25-12 return from Denis Addis, Chris Evripidou, Norman Austin and Keith Power fuelled Poole’s 74-71 triumph. Peter Frampton (23-12) topped Moordown’s efforts.

At HQ, Highcliffe had to settle for two points salvaged by Stan Patch (19-16). The main contribution to Richmond Park’s 88-65 win came from David Daman, Graham Shoots, Mike Lodge and Dave Snow (29-17).

Redhill Park collected their first win of the campaign with a 12-2 success over visitors West Moors. Terry Horgan’s crew of Mike Smith, Roger Luscombe and Doug Horne (34-14) tooted Redhill home to a 92-71 win.

• Wimborne A moved closer to Section Four leaders Branksome Park with a 75-68 victory at Argyll. Mike Foy, George Becking, Kevin O’Connell and Percy Swinson (23-13) paved the way for the Minstermen’s 10-point haul.

New Milton needed three winning rinks to cover Milford-on-Sea skip Colin Baker (28-16). Chas Plows, David Cawte, Derek Johnson and Richard Atkinson (25-16) steadied the ship to lead Milton to an 82-79 win.

Poole Park B escaped the drop zone following their 14-0 (93-59) triumph over Ferndown. Mick Wallis, Maurice Bower, Adrian Dicker and Ron Newbury (36-9) set the Dolphins on the right course for victory.

Despite a 30-12 contribution from Max King’s quartet, Swanage succumbed to a 12-2 defeat by Christchurch.

Brian Wilson, Derek Neville, Colin Clarke and John Bishop (22-8) headed the Priorites’ 82-71 triumph.

• Broadstone-Wessex A were dethroned after crashing to a 14-0 defeat at Highcliffe in Section Five. Adrian Cuthill, Bryan Taylor, Stuart McCall and Ernie Thorne (27-16) set the bar. Peter Haworth’s squad responded and reversed a 12-2 deficit into a 25-16 win.

Southbourne donned the leaders’ mantle following their 10-4 (86-67) triumph over Ringwood A. The very experienced rink of Derek Painter, Ivor Goodman, Jim Ford and Jim Hesford (34-11) excelled for the hosts.

Lymington A popped into second spot with a 12-2 home victory over Boscombe Cliff B. Geoff Jessop, Ed Burrows, Norman Caulfield and Peter Rolfe (30-13) were the star performers in Lymo’s 83-61 win.

Pelhams A edged ahead on three rinks against Redhill Park A, but the decisive blow was struck by Cyril Glenn, Roger McMillan, Jim Widdicombe and Alan Bennett (28-16) to give Pelhams a 14-0 (82-62) victory.

• The top four maintained their form by all notching wins in Section Six.

Branksome Park B overcame Iford Bridge 14-0, with Carl King, Peter Dixon, Stan Tucker and John Woollcott (25-8) at the forefront of the Squirrels’ 91-52 win.

Swanmore, also four rink winners, rattled up a 101-74 victory over Southbourne C. Top formation for the Swans was Dennis Barratt, Geoff Narradine, Colin Brooke and Gordon Parker who carded a 30-17 win.

Ferndown A, meanwhile, shared rinks with Poole Park C. However, a 39-8 success from Dave Rickets, Bert Whincup, Geoff Clarke and Brian Roberts proved vital as the Stags eased to a 96-61 triumph.

Wimborne B, playing against close rivals Argyll, had to settle for the two points earned by Phil Jackson’s crew (26-11). John Memory, John Hancock, Eric Griffin and Mike Merridew (22-10) laid the foundations for Argyll’s 77-69 win.

Kings Park A pulled clear of the basement area after their definitive 14-0 (89-61) win over bottom-club Richmond Park A. Peter Saunders, Bob Jones, Des Milnes and Ken Hitchens (24-12) ruled for the Royals.
