SWIM Bournemouth’s Jack Burton broke his third Dorset breaststroke record in nine days at the South West Age Group Championships – then found himself training alongside the man who set the old standards 13 years ago.
A week after setting new Dorset senior and junior figures in the 200m breaststroke at Millfield, the 14-year-old knocked 0.79sec off the county junior record in the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1:09.01.
All three records had been held by Seth Chappels since 1998.
Chappels, who swam in the European Junior Champion-ships in his Ferndown Otters days and twice stood alongside Mark Foster on the podium at British championships, now manages the Dubai Sports City Swimming Academy in the UAE.
But he is currently home on leave and turned up at Canford School to put in a few training sessions with Swim Bournemouth.
Burton’s fellow nationals qualifier Jaz Holmes won gold in the 12yrs 800m freestyle in 9:51.92 and silver in the 200m freestyle (2:16.30).
Ben Samuels took silver in the 10yrs 200m freestyle and bronze in the 400m medley (6:35.08) and Lucy Brain claimed bronze in the 11yrs 200m freestyle (2:27.42).
Other Bournemouth finalists included Christy Cole, Elisabeth Hood, Oscar Esposti, Matthew Collins, Grace Kingsley, Ryan McCormack, Jaz Oliver-House, Jamie Holmes and, representing his old club Seagulls, Ben Wickens.
