The Swans had their wings clipped after Southbourne clocked up the highest score of the day in A Division, overcoming Swanmore 66-27.
It was close for top honours with Southbourne’s Sue Dadson (35-16) just headed by Olive Fidler, Jean Howell, Tina Sikes and Barbara Lunnun (31-11).
Lymington took over second place, winning 4-2 at Richmond Park. Lymo’s lights were Patsy Little, Sandy Nailard, Wendy Brown and Kay Richardson (34-16), who covered Richmond’s Muriel Groves (24-16).
Redhill Park were ecstatic after collecting six points against Braeside. Jennie Cooper, Jean Dixon and Ethel Hanlon (18.75-13), combined with Pat Horgan’s quartet (16-15), lifted Redhill out of the bottom two.
Braeside were joined in the drop zone by West Moors, who suffered a 6-0 reverse at home to Broadstone-Wessex. Honours were shared by Vanessa Smyth (23-19) and Sibil Ball (21-17).
After delivering 672 woods, Ferndown shared the spoils 3-3 with visitors Poole Park. The Dolphins’ combination of Ann Walford, Kris Saunders, Sandie Smith and Rosemary Spetch and Ferndown’s Rosemary Butler, Olive Keer, Linda Linge and Julie Stringer cancelled each other out, both winning 24-16.
• B Division leaders Iford Bridge came a cropper at home to Pelhams. The Kinson ladies departed with all six points courtesy of Pat Jeans, Peggy Stephens, Mollie Lindsay, Norma Grinter (21-12) and Beth Roberts’s rink (17-13).
Wimborne took up the running after their 50-33 victory at West Moors. Two points for Lorna Foreman’s rink (20-19) became six after Maggie Wilkins, Elaine Campbell, Chris King and Pat Gallup carded a 30-14 win.
Kings Park’s Anne Ashcroft (19-15) salvaged two points at Highcliffe. Rosemary Sullivan, Pat Stoveld, Pat Jolley and Rosemary Shepherd (32-14) put the castle maidens in control as Highcliffe ran out 47-33 winners.
Wendy Reed’s quartet (lost 27-11 to Brock skip Jean Lees), played their part in New Milton’s 38-37 triumph at Brockenhurst by collecting three shots on the last end. Margaret Whale, Chris Cooke, Pauline McCarthy and Sheila Nicoll (25-8) were Milton’s anchor rink.
Fordingbridge remained in the drop zone despite tanning Milford-on-Sea 50-23. Mary Wych’s quartet (22-15) and Jenny Yeo’s squad of Pat Lugg, Jeanette Ford and Brenda Hammond (28-8) organised the Turks’ 6-0 win.
• C Division pacemakers Richmond Park I stumbled to a 4-2 home defeat by Southbourne. Maureen Chadwick, Edie Brophy, Sheila York and Maureen Elkin (22-19) held on to cover Richmond’s Brenda Streater (15-13).
Argyll shared second spot following their 5-1 triumph at Verwood. Trudi Farrar, Joan Webb, Norah King and Emmie Drinkwater (28-12) quenched Argyll’s thirst. Verwood’s Jan Stern earned a last-end 22-22 tie.
Bournemouth’s belles got back on track with a 4-2 (43-39) win over Branksome Park. Trish Leach, Olwyn Smith, Lyn Elder and Joan Belcher (22-15) covered Lola Barker (24-21).
Broadstone-Wessex, meanwhile, edged clear of the basement with a 49-24 win over Richmond Park II. A massive 34-7 return from Iris Rumble, June Leaper, June Bell and Sally Rowe outscored Richmond’s Trish Gray (17-15).
Alexandra Park are 10 points from safety after their 4-2 defeat at Braeside. The Alex rink skipped by Gina McGregor (17-15) coped with the Magic Carpet but fell short of host skip Pauline Crocker (32-13).
• A big cheer rang out at Argyll where Ringwood collected their first win of the season in D Division. Mary Macarthur’s quartet chimed in to win 21-12, while the Foresters’ Eileen Clarke lost 15.75-19 after the 25 per cent deduction was applied.
Poole Park stayed top after defeating New Milton 42-31. Rosemary Stainer, Floss Godsell, Phyl Wallis and Gwyneth Foord (28-15) secured four points for the Dolphins. Chris Mays (16-14) salvaged points for Milton.
Moordown cruised to a six- point victory over Broadstone-Wessex. Pat Martin’s rink (23-15) gave full support to the Moordown models Barbara Roles, Gill Barron, Erika Sykes and Cathy France (29-10).
Swanmore glided into third spot with a double rink victory at Lymington. Doreen Durnford, Daphne Hales, Esme Hazel and Mary Jones (23-18) were the Swans’ top flight. Pearl Shepheard’s flock won 21-20.
Despite a 32-20 success, Highcliffe skip Anne Taylor finished on the losing side after Pelhams’ combination of Georgina Bennett, Audrey Grinstead, Joyce Duxbury and Jean Perry won 26-9.
• Shelley Park are nine points clear in E Division after a 4-2 triumph over closest rivals Southbourne. Maureen Taylor’s 26-11 success for Southbourne was surpassed by Joan Smith, Marion Stainer, Hazel Gabriel and Pam Bolt (34-15).
Braeside snatched second spot with 6-0 win over Redhill Park. Braeside’s Pat Shepherd collected a last-end 21-20 win to go with the success of Beryl Blackburn, Maggie Penn, Pam Coventry and Janet Young (28-10).
Pelhams were denied six points by West Moors skip Pauline Jepson, who claimed a last-end 14-14 tie. Judy Jones, Stella Feltham, Pat Lodge and former Moors player Anne Jenkinson turned a deficit into a 28-19 win.
Branksome Park, meanwhile, went one further with a 6-0 victory at Christchurch. Hilary Jenkins held on to win 20-19.
• F Division trailblazers Moordown continued their winning form with a 6-0 success at Branksome Park. Pauline Pain, Sheila Nelson, Vi Shevill and Pat Masters (27-15) controlled proceedings, ably supported by Cherry Webb’s rink (24-17).
Kings Park stayed in touch with a 5-1 (48-25) win over Highcliffe. Tessa Hunt (19-19) denied the hosts a full house, while Jean Roebuck, Peggy Phillpotts, Laura Kitcher and Mo Smith (29-6) put the Royals in control.
Ferndown are now level with Kings Park after a 6-0 victory at New Milton. Edna Ward, Julie Masterman, Margaret Bengtsson and Anne Wrighton piled in to win 33-12, supported by Mary Harris’s quartet (21-12).
Redhill Park and Wimborne returned home with nothing to show for their efforts. Redhill lost 52-17 at Swanmore after Val Honan, Adrienne Turgel, Beryl Brunsden and Pauline West carded a 31-12 win.
And Wimborne fared even worse, going down 6-0 (58-17) at Milford-on-Sea. Jill Blakeley, Christina Newell, Sue Pitts and Joan Summersby led the onslaught by racking up an incredible 42-3 win.
