MATT Metcalfe starred with both bat and ball as Dorset edged day one of their Minor Counties Championship clash against Wiltshire at Devizes.
Metcalfe dug the visitors out of a hole with a watchful 60 at the bottom of the order, putting on 63 with Ed Denham (37) to help Dorset reach 285 all out.
Darren Cowley (48) and Glyn Treagus (44) put on 76 in the middle order, while Wiltshire’s Owen Alsop finished with impressive figures of four for 58.
In reply, Wiltshire got off to the worst possible start, losing both openers with just 23 runs on the board.
Jayden Levitt was trapped lbw by Metcalfe for 10, before Dorset captain Tom Hicks removed Luke Stoughton for 12 thanks to Nick Park’s catch.
Wiltshire closed on 37 for two ahead of today’s second day.
