EVERGREEN Greg Hancock stormed to his third British Grand Prix title and then tipped Pirates star Chris Holder to “dominate” the world championship for years to come.
Holder finished third behind the 41-year-old American and Dane Nicki Pedersen at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday, racking up 15 points to take the Aussie to third in the overall standings.
Pirates’ number one started slowly, notching just one point from his opening two qualifying rides as he looked to defend the title he won so spectacularly in 2010.
But after three consecutive heat wins took him to 10 points, it looked as though the 23-year-old could yet spring a surprise.
The Aussie won his semi-final after Dane Kenneth Bjerre had been excluded for a tapes offence, but could not keep pace with Hancock and Pedersen in the final after Emil Sayfutdinov had also been disqualified following a fall.
Hancock, though, who added to wins on these shores in 1995 and 2004, believes Holder and Pirates team-mate Darcy Ward will take the Grand Prix series by storm over the next few years.
The 1997 world champion said: “There are a lot of good riders who are showing signs that they want to take over from me and be better than me.
“Chris has got a huge future ahead of him but while I am pleased to see it, I’ve also got to try and keep him behind me!
“Chris and Darcy Ward are the two guys I would say are going to dominate the speedway world in years to come. Those are the two guys I would warn the speedway world to watch out for.”
