WEST Region captain Michael Watson is now in the form of his life as he claimed his fourth win of the season with a two-under-par 67 in the International Plywood pro-am at Lilley Brook.

This time he was forced to share top spot with Chris Benians (Hayle Golf Range) who made five birdies and dropped three shots.

In contrast Watson plotted his way patiently around the Cheltenham course and was content to make 13 straight pars before his final winning assault worth £569.

His first birdie came at the 14th, then he dropped his only shot at the next hole, but two further birdies and a solid finishing par was enough.

Watson’s incredible run started with victory in the Dudsbury Ladies pro-am on June 2. In the subsequent 24 days he won at Cotswold Hills and Stinchcombe Hill, was second at North Wilts, third partnered by Wessex Golf Centre colleague Jon Bevan in the West Region Fourball Championship, fifth at Vivary Park and sixth at both Launceston and in the Glenmuir PGA Championship at The Belfry.

His one setback was losing in a play-off for one of the final two places available on the PGA Cup team following the Glenmuir.

New father Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) was third, making a rare but decisive birdie three on the 18th for 68, worth £400, to escape the seven-man log-jam behind him in fourth that included Paul Jones (Canford Magna) and Mark Wiggett (Dudsbury) who each banked £203.

In the previous event Watson, the 2009 PGA Play-off champion, shot a bogey-free eight-under-par 60 to win the Stinchcombe Hill pro-am and £660.

He started slowly but disregarded the wet afternoon conditions and had thoughts of a magical 59 as he stood on the final tee needing a birdie four to set a career-low round.

He said: "The hole looked as big as a bucket today and it felt like every putt went in. It would have been nice to shoot 59 but 60 was special."

Such a low return looked unlikely as he started with six pars. But then he cut loose with eight birdies in the next 11 holes.

Graham Howell (Ferndown Forest) and Jon Bevan (Wessex) shared third place on 69 worth £365 each. Paul Jones (Canford Magna) was a shot further back, banking £226.
