A DIVISION leaders Southbourne cruised to a 4-2 (58-31) win at Poole Park, with Carol Bridger, Liz Messer, Jan Dearling and Sue Dadson (39-7) hitting the day’s highest rink total and outscoring Poole’s Rosemary Spetch (24-19).
Lymington stayed second following their 4-2 triumph over West Moors. The Lymo combination of Patsy Little, Janice Smith, Wendy Brown and Kay Richardson (25-19) edged out Moors skip Janet Price (23-20).
After last week’s crash landing, the Swans took off with a 6-0 win over Richmond Park. Gill Head’s rink (19-15) were upgraded to join Carole Feetham, Linda Pocknell, Rosie Beales and Jenny Osbourne (25-9) in first class.
Braeside moved out of the drop zone after taking six points against Ferndown, with Anne Cox, Marjorie Hey, Joan Brooks and Molly Shutler (25-14) looming in to take top honours in the 55-35 victory.
Elsewhere, Broadstone-Wessex overcame Redhill Park 4-2 (45-29). The result was never in doubt after Pam Fordham, Monica Sturgess, Anne Williams and Lyn Howard had checked in with a 29-9 win.
• There was no stopping Wimborne in B Division after they completed a double-rink victory at New Milton. Pat Gallup, Maggie Wilkins, Elaine Campbell and Chris King (25-13) were on song for the Minster ladies with back up courtesy of Lorna Foreman’s quartet which grabbed a last-end 23-22 win.
There was a surprise result at Pelhams, however, where lowly Brockenhurst registered a 4-2 victory. Jean Lees’s clan of Janet Lake, Janet Blizzard and Dorothy Bond (31-11) set Brock on course by outscoring Pelhams’ Beth Roberts (23-14).
Iford Bridge moved into second place after a 4-2 win at Kings Park. Margaret Avery, Glenda Quick, Gill Lanning and Renee Stanger (24-19) just covered Royals skip Beryl Nuttall (20-18).
Highcliffe picked up five points at Milford-on-Sea courtesy of a 21-19 win by Rosemary Sullivan, Pat Jolley, Rosemary Shepherd and Val Snook. Milford’s Chris Capron held on to tie 16-16.
Fordingbridge, meanwhile, suffered a double-rink (48-35) defeat at West Moors. Sheila Rundle, Eileen Floyd, Elaine Hunt and Olive Freeman (27-16) were supported by Val Burton (21-19).
• C Division pacemakers Richmond Park I came off second best in their top-two clash at Argyll. Trudi Farrar, Joan Webb, Norah King and Emmie Drinkwater (20-17) coupled with Norma Ritchens’s 18-15 win earned Argyll all six points.
After Southbourne skip Maureen Elkins had been forced to retire after five ends through injury, Maureen Chadwick, Edie Brophy and Sheila York battled on to win 13-11 against Bournemouth and, ultimately, led Southbourne to a 28-25 victory and six points.
There were also six-point hauls for Branksome Park and Broadstone-Wessex over Braeside and Alexandra Park, respectively. Squirrels skips Lola Barker (33-12) and Carol Williams (28-7) combined to annihilate Braeside 61-19.
The main agitators for Broadstone-Wessex against lowly Alex, meanwhile, were Veronica Ness, Val Rowberry, Maureen Day and Carole Bamford (27-9).
Elsewhere, Richmond Park II suffered a 4-2 (42-40) home defeat by Verwood. Trish Gray salvaged two points for Richmond, but Pat Dowling’s combo of Gill Thomas, Eileen Wood and Jan Stern covered with a 25-14 win.
• D Division big guns Poole Park and Moordown both lost 4-2 on their travels. The Dolphins’ defeat came at Swanmore where regular performers Doreen Durnford, Daphne Hales, Esme Hazel and Mary Jones (22-16) edged the Swans to a 38-37 win.
Moordown became Ringwood’s second scalp of the season. Foresters’ Breta Miller, Eileen Clarke, Ann Atkinson and Mary Macarthur (23-13) covered Moordown’s winning skip Cathy France (21-17).
Elsewhere, New Milton shared the points (3-3) with the visitors after Pelhams skip Val Charig (17-16) matched Milton’s winning rink (19-18).
The day’s highest score came at Broadstone-Wessex where visitors Lymington swamped the hosts 6-0 (63-39). Lymo’s main antagonists were Sandy Nailard, Jan Merrett, Gillian Smith and Jean Stopp (36-20).
The mid-table tussle at Nea Meadows between Highcliffe and Argyll resulted in a 4-2 victory for the Castle maidens. Janet Ramsay, Kathy Smith, Janet Donald and Anne Taylor (27-14) claimed a 36-35 win for the hosts on the last end.
• Trailblazers Shelley Park made it eight wins from nine in E Division with a comfortable 6-0 (57-20) victory over bottom club Redhill Park. Shelley’s combination of Edna Lee, Barbara Graves, Sue Perkins and Sylvia Sayer (28-9) pipped Joan Smith’s rink (29-11) for top honours.
A high-scoring clash at Southbourne saw Christchurch crash to a double-rink 62-27 defeat. Maureen Taylor’s quartet (29-17) backed the 33-10 win by Marion Juipe, Sheila Hulland, Anthea Chilcott and Jan Pardy.
New Milton collected four points following their 32-29 success at Branksome Park and there were also 4-2 victories for West Moors and Pelhams.
A 23-11 return from Braeside’s Janet Young (23-11) was covered by the Moors quartet of Linda Light, Nancy Brown, Trish Quick and Pauline Jepson (29-14).
And Pelhams’ win came at Poole Park where the Dolphins’ winning skip Barbara Gladwyn (23-11) was surpassed by the successful formation of Judy Jones, Janet Fish, Pat Lodge and Anne Jenkinson (22-13).
• F Division leaders Moordown dropped to fourth place after narrow defeats on both rinks to close rivals Kings Park. Royals skip Joyce Clough claimed a last-end 20-19 win and Mo Smith (19-18) held on to take all six points.
Milford-on-Sea moved into the frame following their six-point haul at Redhill Park. Jill Blakeley, Sue Pitts, Merle Youngman and Joan Summersby (27-7) spearheaded the Seasiders’ 45-23 victory.
Ferndown were also jostling for position after overcoming Branksome Park 4-2. June Hanney, Ruth Lawrenson, Shirley Davies and Mary Harris carded a 22-19 win which proved crucial in the final 41-39 tally.
Swanmore moved into mid-table after securing four points from their encounter at Highcliffe. Gwen Skinner, Adrienne Turgel, Beryl Brunsden and Pauline West (30-9) were the top flight in the Swans’ 45-32 triumph.
Elsewhere, Wimborne’s 4-2 (49-43) win over New Milton moved the Minster maidens out of the basement section.
