BOSCOMBE Cliff extended their lead over Knyveton Gardens in Section One with a clinical performance at Meyrick Park, defeating Bourne-mouth on all four rinks.
The main contributors to Cliff’s 97-50 triumph were Graham Matthew, Brian Frith, Craig Paterson and Alan Geary (31-13).
The biggest shock of the day came at Branksome Park where lowly West Moors won 14-0. John Niblock’s team of Colin Mills, Charles Morris and Eric Cook (25-12) served up the main course in the Moors’ 96-62 victory.
Poole Park, meanwhile, shared rinks with hosts Knyveton Gardens but a solid 24-15 win by Roy Leake, Mike Beales, Tony Davis and David Baxter guided the Gardeners to a 10-4 (82-72) success.
Southbourne climbed to third spot following their 12-2 (86-72) win at Lymington. The top return for the Tower men came from Brendan Sullivan, John Hutchinson, Richard Poole and Brian Jones (28-14).
Alexandra Park pulled away from unfamiliar surroundings at the foot of the table by winning 14-0 at Ringwood. Dan Tomberry, John Rumble, Mike Stapleton and Mark Tomberry (39-12) steered Alex to a 115-53 win.
• The top two encounter in Section Two resulted in Fordingbridge overcoming Wimborne 12-2, thus relegating the Minster men to fourth spot. David Bradley, Jim Wych, Cyril Copp and Derek Purse (27-13) contributed most to the Turks’ 88-70 victory.
New Milton leapfrogged the Turks to take over the leaders’ mantle following their 14-0 (98-66) destruction of Swanmore. Top honours for the New Forest fellows went to Brian Gordan, Bob Shepperdley, Chris Tabor and Keith Young (28-15).
Pelhams skip Bob Robins (20-8) frustrated Broadstone-Wessex, whose three winning rinks could only level the score at 69-69. The Wessex men had to settle for nine points with their top return (18-12) coming from Chris Howard’s quartet.
Electric’s current form goes from bad to worse. Their latest defeat, a 14-0 thrashing, came at Southbourne where John Challis’s crew of Chris Broomfield, Huw Evans and Martin Sheppard (24-14) guided the Tower men to an 83-60 win.
Kings Park are in freefall. They are 20 points from safety after their 12-2 loss at Boscombe Cliff. Tony Green, Frank Wells, Mike Proctor and Wayne Foulger (24-14) were the top dogs in Cliff’s 74-69 victory.
• Section Three trailblazers Braeside hit their fourth ‘ton-up’ with a 12-2 (106-54) win over Iford Bridge. A brutal 39-3 by Derek Baber, John Taylor, Brian Wrightson and Colin Seale closed any thoughts Iford had of winning.
Poole Park A and Knyveton Gardens A are now level on points following their encounter at lakeside. The Dolphins emerged 10-4 (89-71) winners. Their top score came from Barry Gauge, Bob Walford, Stan Cocklin and John Hobby (26-13).
Richmond Park, meanwhile, stayed in touch following their 11-3 (80-78) win at West Moors. HQ were indebted to Dave Snow’s men, David Daman, Barry Wheeler and Mike Lodge (21-13) who collected four shots on the last end.
Braeside A were brushed aside at Moordown, going down 14-0. Moordown’s four winning rinks were headed by Derek Wilde, Brian Lolley, Frank Shepherd and Gary Menday (31-14).
Redhill Park remain at the foot of the table following their 12-2 home defeat by Highcliffe.
Trevor Welch, Colin Ambrose, Bill Berry and John Irons reinforced Highcliffe’s winning total of 97-66.
• All rinks were separated by just four shots or less in the encounter between Branksome Park and Ferndown in Section Four. With rinks shared, Roger Parnell, Chris Harding, Bryan Morgan and Joe Staddon (19-15) eased the Squirrels across the line to win 77-73.
Argyll reinforced the form book with a 12-2 victory over bottom club Christchurch. Bill Taylor, Colin Harrison, Mark Howard and John Roberts (26-14) laid the foundations for Argyll’s 85-65 win.
Swanage bagged consecutive wins thanks to Dave Wright, Roy Scott, Terry Buck and Pat Ratcliffe (23-10), who led from the front to earn the Purbeck men 14 points after defeating visitors New Milton A 82-54.
Wimborne A, meanwhile, moved up to fourth overcoming Milford-on-Sea 83-82. The rinks were shared, with Percy Swinson (20-15) topping the Minster’s efforts and Colin Baker (19-14) coming good for the Seasiders.
• Section Five leaders Southbourne B were evenly matched after nine ends with Lymington A. Then the Tower men, led by Bob Pardy, Dennis Heath, Norman Winn and Dennis Simpson (28-14), cut loose to win 95-62.
There was another ton-up, and another max, as Broadstone-Wessex dismantled Pelhams 108-59. Alister Swadell, Bernard Sturgess, John Phelan and Alan Godwin (35-10) were the pick of the Wessex winning rinks.
There were also 14 points for Highcliffe who defeated Redhill Park 93-69. Colin Bridgewater, Colin Evans, Geoff Humphreys and Doug Blunden (22-14) took top honours for Highcliffe.
The basement battle at Knyve-ton Gardens resulted in a 12-2 (73-69) triumph for Boscombe Cliff B. The Gardeners’ riposte came from Don Priddle’s quartet (24-14).
• With their two nearest rivals losing, Branksome Park opened up a 14-point gap in Section Six after Reg Chick, Brian Simpkin, Wally Barker and Mike Everett (26-15) paved the way for a 12-2 (88-65) success over Wimborne.
Swanmore A crashed to a 14-0 (111-48) defeat from visitors Argyll A. The top return for the West Cliff club came from Rob Howe, John Buckley, Robert Jackson and Ben Brown (40-10).
Ferndown, meanwhile, could only muster two points at Rich-mond Park courtesy of Bryan Roberts (29-14). Tony Holland, Frank Fudge, John McLaughlin and Harry Lewis (30-10) paved the way for HQ’s 102-73 win.
Iford Bridge moved clear of the bottom two following their 12-2 (69-64) victory over Southbourne. Bridge’s main support was Elved Adams, Wilf Pitcher, Dave Thil-way and Nick McGing (23-13).
Elsewhere, despite only winning on one rink, Poole Park departed Kings Park with nine points. Gary Shepherd, Cliff Sinth, Colin Ansell and David Grant (29-18) were the saviours in the Dolphins’ 85-81 success.
