Southbourne made it seven A Division wins in a row by mastering the ‘magic carpet’ to defeat Braeside 42-33.

Carol Bridger, Liz Messer, Jan Dearling and Sue Dadson (31-10) brushed aside the opposition whose winning riposte came from Molly Shutler (23-11).

Lymington reinforced their hold on second place with a 4-2 win at Swanmore. Joan Geddes, Ngaio Mapes, Jenny Lawford and Angela Eldridge (23-12) covered Swans skip Jenny Osbourne (17-12).

Poole Park’s roller-coaster season hit a peak with a double-rink victory over Richmond Park. Dolphin’s high-fliers were Wendy Hardy, Pam Smith, Mo Mowlam and Penny Cresswell (27-9), slipstreamed by Rosemary Spetch’s quartet (24-21).

Ferndown are in the drop zone after losing 4-2 to Broadstone-Wessex. Pam Fordham, Monica Sturgess, Anne Williams and Lyn Howard (31-11) were the cornerstone of the Wessex Girls’ 47-31 win. Solace for Ferndown came from Barbara Brown’s squad (20-16).

West Moors overcame hosts Redhill Park 38-27. Redhill’s Ethel Hanlon carded a 20-12 win but was surpassed by the Moors combo of Anne McIntyre, Marion Wake, Judith Miles and Mavis Riddington (26-7).

• There were nil points for Wimborne in the B Division top-of-the-table clash at Pelhams. Beth Roberts’s squad of Trish Kilminster, Audrey Judge and Mary Watts (22-15) were on full charge for Pelhams. Norma Grinter (23-18) tidied up for six points.

Highcliffe fared well on their travels, winning 45-30 at Iford Bridge. Rosemary Sullivan, Brenda King, Rose Shepherd and Val Snook (28-14) claimed top honours from Janet Emerson (17-16), who made it a maximum haul for Highcliffe.

West Moors lost ground on the leaders, going down 41-34 to Milford-on-Sea. Milford’s leading ladies were Judy Spooner, Merle Youngman, Carol Tearle and Christine Capron (25-16). Moors skip Olive Freeman (18-16) denied the Seasiders a maximum return.

Fordingbridge had to be content with two points at New Milton. Turks’ captain Mary Wych (23-15) fell short of New Milton’s winning combination (20-10).

Kings Park had a convincing 51-29 win over Brockenhurst. The Royals took all six points after Ann Ashcroft’s quartet (22-15) played support role to Jo Shaw, Anne Hill, Muriel Rose and Beryl Nuttall (29-14).

• Following an inspirational display by the Belles’ bevy of Gill Hughes, Brenda Halliday, Vilma Irish and Joan Cox (23-14), captain Joan Belcher (22-17) wrapped up six points for Bournemouth against C Division leaders Argyll.

Richmond Park I moved into top place after Brenda Streater’s last-end 16-15 win, combined with Sue Dillon, Ann Devine, Eileen Deadman and Lynda Gorf (27-12) gave Richmond a double-rink victory over Verwood.

Southbourne also leapfrogged Argyll following their 5-1 defeat of Braeside. Ann Ankers, Sheila Cordes, Judith Bliss and Gill Goodright (25-18) paved the way for Southbourne’s win, but were denied all six points by Braeside skip Pauline Crocker (19-19).

The mid-table clash at Branksome Park resulted in a 4-2 triumph for the visitors Broadstone-Wessex. Carol Williams’s crew carded a (24-11) win, but were covered by Wessex Girls Iris Rumble, June Leaper, June Bell and Sally Rowe (30-11).

Despite defeating fellow strugglers Richmond Park 41-35, Alexandra Park are still bottom. Gina McGregor (18-17) backed Ruth Addis, Chris Stoodley, Doris Singleton and Dierdre Owen (23-18) to earn Alex six points.

• D Division leaders Poole Park travelled to basement club Broadstone-Wessex but only just managed to scrape a 4-2 (37-33) victory. Dolphin’s mainstays were Gill Brown, Fay Bowering, Muriel Coombes and Phyl Wallis (22-12).

Moordown could only muster two points at Lymington thanks to Pat Martins’s rink (20-13). Lymos’ Pam Shiell, Ann Goddard, Gillian Smith and Jean Stopp (31-13) halted any Moordown aspirations of a victory.

Swanmore moved ever closer, collecting four points with a 4-2 (40-34) win over Pelhams. Top flight for the Swans was Doreen Brown, Cathy Hayes, Pam Bullock and Pearl Shepheard (26-18).

Meanwhile at the lower end of the table, Argyll collected four invaluable points from their 40-35 success at New Milton after Margaret Gardner, Jean Gatrill, Evelyn Lewin and Doris Jeffery coasted to a 24-14 win.

Ringwood dropped to bottom place after their narrow 38-34 defeat at Highcliffe, where the hosts’ rinks skipped by Anne Taylor and Betty Blunden both recorded 19-17 wins.

• There was an E Division horror story at Christchurch as Shelley Park crashed to a 47-29 defeat. The bells rang out for Anne Wilson, Val Keeping, Hilda Cummings and Mary Poore (29-13), also for Margaret Crisp’s rink who won 18-16.

Second-placed Southbourne failed to take advantage, losing 4-2 (47-41) to visitors New Milton. Southbourne’s winning skip, Jan Pardy (23-20) was covered by New Milton’s successful rink (27-18).

There was a rare occasion of three losses on the day for Braeside. At lakeside, Braeside skip Janet Young (21-17) fell short of Dolphin’s winning combo Mary Fletcher, Pam Whitfield, Helen Winton and Joyce McIndoe (22-13).

Pelhams regained third spot following their double-rink victory at Branksome Park.

The main contribution to Pelhams’ 45-32 win was delivered by Judy Jones, Margaret Eldridge, Janet Fish and Anne Jenkinson (25-18).

Despite winning 6-0 at West Moors, Redhill Park are still in the drop zone. Bobby Saunders’s last-end (16-15) win added to the 21-14 success of Barbara Sainsbury, Jean Locke, Barbara Adams and Sylvia Wood (21-14).

• Kings Park overcame their nearest F Division rivals Ferndown 44-31. Michelle Higham, Peggy Philpott, Laura Kitcher and Mo Smith (22-15) combined with Joyce Clough (22-16) to earn the Royals all six points.

There were also maximum points for Moordown who beat bottom club Highcliffe 50-23. Pat Martin (20-13) and Cherry Webb’s crew of Wendy Bule, Barbara Read and Pauline Pain (28-10) inflicted the agony on Highcliffe.

Swanmore moved to mid-table security following their 4-2 win at Milford-on-Sea. Gwen Skinner, Marilyn Wolff, Adrienne Turgel and Sonja Cross (25-15) laid the foundations for the Swans’ 43-40 victory.

Redhill Park edged nearer safety taking four points from visitors New Milton. Redhill’s trio of Val Griffiths, Gladys Rolfe and Mary Pearce (19.5-12) survived the 25 per cent rule to cover Milton’s winning rink (23-21).

The Minster chimes rang out as Margaret Longbone, Maureen Best, Val Hurst and Brenda Gardiner (34-11) led Wimborne to a 4-2 (48-32) win over Branksome Park. Jean Hands laid on two points for the Squirrels.
