Abbi Axe-Browne was the fastest girl in the pool as she played a starring role in the annual Dorset Development Meet at Littledown.
In the space of two days, the 15-year-old from Swim Bournemouth won eight gold medals, broke six competition best times (CBTs), scooped the Best Female Swim award on both days and won both the girls’ skins knockout events.
Her CBTs came in the 15yrs 50 and 100m freestyle (29.08 and 1:02.83), 50 and 100m butterfly (34.31 and 1:15.10), 100m breaststroke (1:25.06) and 100m individual medley (1:13.27).
She also won the 50m backstroke and 400m freestyle and was the last girl standing in the freestyle and backstroke skins, which see the slowest swimmer in each eliminated until only the fastest two remain.
Second and third in the freestyle skins were Bethan Whittall (Tornadoes) and Jessica Northcote (West Dorset) and in the backstroke Bethan Hebditch (Swim Bournemouth) and Maisie Gormley (Christchurch Seagulls).
Axe-Browne won the “best swim” awards for her 50m freestyle on day one and 400m freestyle (4:48.01) on day two.
She was one of 30 Swim Bournemouth swimmers who struck gold at least once, helping to win them the Top Club award.
Bournemouth SC were named the Most Improved Club after recording 22 PBs in 25 swims including medal-winning swims from 13-year-old Tom Powell (one gold and two bronze) and Barney Fry, 14 (one bronze).
Mikey Kingsley’s 56.90sec in the 15yrs 100m freestyle won him the Best Male Swim award on day one with his Seagulls club-mate Darren Price, also 15, taking the day two award for his 200m freestyle time of 2:06.16.
Price set four CBTs as he won four gold medals, Kingsley two CBTs and three golds. Price also won the backstroke skins from Guy Buttle (West Dorset) and Declan Callahan (Poole).
A third Seagull, Cianan Mann, won the freestyle skins from Kingsley and Swim Bournemouth’s Martin Dunn.
As a record-breaker, Poole’s Jessica Richens was almost a match for Axe-Browne as she set five CBTs – in the 11yrs 50, 100 and 200m freestyle (32.49, 1:08.63 and 5:14.63), 50m backstroke (37.38) and 100m medley (1:19.63).
Jack Simpkins (Swim Bournemouth) broke three CBTs – in the 13yrs 50 and 200m breaststroke (37.75 and 2:59.41) and 200m backstroke (2:34.38).
Two CBTS apiece fell to Poole’s Alex Price in the 12yrs 200m backstroke (2:42.92) and 400m freestyle (5:00.55) and Thomas Dootson (Swim Bournemouth) in the 15yrs 50 and 200m breaststroke (2:44.92).
