Southbourne suffered only their second A Division defeat, losing 35-32 to Broadstone-Wessex. Pam Fordham, Monica Sturgess, Vanessa Smyth and Lyn Howard crept in to win 19-17, while Sibil Ball’s crew (16-15) held on to make it six points for the Wessex girls.
Second-placed Lymington looked set for a 6-0 haul, but had to settle for three points after Redhill’s Margaret Pittwood, Pauline Wiseman, Jean Dixon and Pat Horgan made four shots to win 22-21.
This matched Lymo’s winners Patsy Little, Sandy Naillard, Wendy Brown and Kay Richardson (21-20).
Swanmore got back on course by defeating Poole Park 4-2. Carole Feetham, Linda Pocknell, Rosie Beales and Jenny Osborne (33-10) soared to cover Dolphins’ Penny Cresswell (23-15).
The rearranged fixture between Braeside and Richmond Park was played in wet conditions on Saturday morning. In a close finish, Richmond emerged with a 4-2 (39-38) victory, primarily down to Jill Bryant’s squad of Jean Beedie, Dorothy Borthwick and Pam Harrison (26-9).
West Moors, meanewhile, moved out of the drop zone following their 41-35 win over Ferndown. Mavis Riddington (21-19) and Olive Freeman’s rink of Maureen Burfield, Val Baxter and Pat Chant (20-16) were on song for the Moors.
• In B Division, the top five lost to the bottom five. Wimborne suffered a 4-2 home defeat by Kings Park, after the Royals’ rink of Jo Shaw, Anne Hill, Muriel Rose and Beryl Nuttall (24-11) outscored the 21-19 return by Minster’s Pat Gallup.
Fordingbridge got the better of Pelhams, meanwhile, winning 44-38. The Turks’ bevy of Janet Norrish, Noreen Jones, Kitty McGeachy and Mary Wych (28-14) were just out of reach for Pelhams’ successful skip Norma Grinter (24-16).
Highcliffe’s raid on Brockenhurst ended pointless after Janet Lake, Janet Blizzard, Joan Bryant and Jean Lees (22-10) dug in for Brock. Dorothy Bond’s 21-16 win made it a full set for the Badgers.
Elsewhere, Iford Bridge crumbled during a 6-0 drubbing at Milford-on-Sea. Pat Wingfield, Joan Moss, Margaret Jeakings and Di Goodyear (33-10) ensured that the Seasiders recorded the highest score of the day’s clashes (61-22).
New Milton, meanwhile, won 4-2 at West Moors after Sheila Godwin, Sandy Elder, Judy Busby and Wendy Reed (23-16) paved the way for a 45-39 triumph.
• Richmond Park I were in a no-win situation against team-mates Richmond-2 in C Division. Trish Gray’s quartet (20-19) finished strongly to edge Richmond II ahead, but Sue Dillon, Doriel Phillips, Eileen Deadman and Lynda Gorf saved the seniors’ blushes by winning 21-9.
Southbourne were demolished by hosts Broadstone-Wessex 56-28. Front-runners for the Wessex girls were Iris Rumble, June Bell, June Leaper and Sally Rowe (32-11). Carole Bamford (24-17) made sure of six points.
Argyll suffered a similar fate at Braeside.
The hosts’ winning skips, Pauline Crocker (27-9) and Mary Lamb (21-10), led their team to a 48-19 triumph.
Branksome Park, meanwhile, collected all six points on offer at Alexandra Park.
The Squirrels’ squad of Sue Harris, Jeanette Newman, Stef Pinson and Carol Williams (30-18) received back-up from Lola Barker (23-16).
The mid-table clash at Meyrick Park finished up as a 4-2 victory for Bournemouth over Verwood, but it was a close call with Joan Belcher’s quartet (20-16) pipping Verwood’s Gill Farrance (20-17).
• Poole Park opened up a nine point lead in D Division after defeating nearest rivals Moordown 6-0.
Top performers for the Dolphins were Rosemary Stainer, Floss Godsell, Joan Eales and Gwyneth Foord (23-16).
Swanmore lost their place after going down on both rinks at Argyll. Margaret Gardner, Jean Gatrill, Evelyn Lewis and Doris Jeffery (24-15) combined with Mary Burrell-Davis’s squad to give Argyll a 46-30 victory.
New Milton took over the Swans’ nest following their 4-2 (41-32) triumph at Highcliffe. June Bolding, Brenda Davis, Barbara Shields and Beryl Anderson (24-14) laid the foundations for Milton’s win.
Pelhams also had to settle for two points, courtesy of Jean Perry’s quartet (14-12), which fell short of the Broadstone-Wessex winning rink of Joan Shaw, Joy Quick, Barbara Parker and Vicki Miller (22-16).
Ringwood, meanwhile, are still bottom despite their 4-2 win over Lymington. Lymo’s Jean Stopp (19-18) collected six shots on the last end, but was covered by Mary Macarthur, Breta Miller, Helen Blackiston and Jane Hanger (21-14).
• Shelley Park recovered from last week’s setback to gather all six points at New Milton in E Division. Joan Smith’s rink of Marion Stainer, Margaret Jeanmonod and Pam Bolt (23-11) locked in for Shelley (43-27).
Southbourne also got back on track, overturning Pelhams 4-2 (37-33). Suzanne Ager, Marilyn Weigh, Madge Simpson and Maureen Taylor (22-16) paved the way for the Southbourne club’s only success of the day.
Braeside jumped into third spot after culling the Squirrels 52-24. Branksome were always trailing and Braeside skips Pat Shepherd (29-12) and Janet Young (23-12) were relentless.
Christchurch notched their second successive six-point win. This week’s victims were Redhill Park who crashed to a 39-59 defeat. Anne Wilson, Val Keeping, Hilda Cummings and Mary Poore (35-20) starred.
Poole Park remained in trouble despite winning 4-2 at West Moors. Moors skip Shirley Sadler carded a 23-15 win, but fell short of Dolphins’ Maree Ansell, Carole Kelsey, Hazel Dew and Barbara Gladwyn (31-10).
• At Kings Park in F Division, the Royals were dethroned by Wimborne. Trish Pitts, Margaret Wilson, Di Mogg and Jane Enticott (23-10) set up the Minster’s 40-36 win. Brenda Gardiner (17-16) held on to take all six points.
Moordown regained the leader’s mantle with a 3-3 tie against Ferndown.
Sheila Nelson, Wendy Bule, Barbara Roles and Cherry Webb wove a 25-21 win, which was equalled by Ferndown’s Mary Harris (20-16).
Milford lost the last end of both rinks at Highcliffe. Verona Carter, Brenda Brian, Juliette Cook and Jenny Ford collected two shots to win 21-20, while Tessa Hunt’s rink joined in with one shot (17-16).
As a result of a 6-0 victory at New Milton, Swanmore moved into the top half of the table. Merrilyn Holden, Beryl Hope, Val Honan and Adrienne Turgel (23-11) laid the foundations for the Swans’ 44-26 win.
Branksome Park sunk to the bottom after losing 4-2 at home to Redhill Park.
The 21-16 win by the Redhill combination of Jenny Payne, Pam Pantlin, Jean Locke and Hazel Rawlings (21-16) proved crucial as, after the 25 per cent deduction rule, their team-mates lost 14.25-19, leaving Redhill 35.25-35 winners.
