Cherries boss Lee Bradbury is today poised to speed up his recruitment drive after agreeing a fee for Charlie Sheringham and opening talks over a loan extension for Jaime Peters.

Non-league hotshot Sheringham, son of former England hero Teddy, could be on his way to Seward Stadium after Dartford confirmed on Saturday they had accepted an offer from Cherries.

Bradbury admitted his interest in the striker after Cherries’ 2-2 draw at MK Dons but said that despite scouting the 23-year-old, no bid had been submitted.

Less than two hours later, Dartford reported that the Conference South frontman was pondering his options after the two clubs had struck a deal, reportedly worth around £25,000.

Bradbury has made no secret of his desire to bolster his attacking options and appears to rate Sheringham as a talent that has previously slipped the net at pro level.

The in-form forward, reigning Blue Square South player of the month, spent time with numerous league clubs earlier in his career and was on trial with Cherries in 2004.

He now looks set to hold transfer talks with Cherries.

When asked by the Daily Echo what his reports had told him about Sheringham before news of the bid emerged, Bradbury said: “That he is technically a good player and he has got good movement.

“I think he has scored 12 goals for Dartford this season and it is just whether we think he can make a step up.

“I am always looking to improve the team and he is one of the players we have had watched of late, but we have watched a lot.

“If there is a jewel hidden in non-league, then we need to see them and look at them.”

Dartford company chairman Bill Archer told his club’s website: “Charlie is really happy at Dartford FC. He doesn’t need to go away and leave and we will hang on to him if possible, but we will not stand in his way to progression if he chooses to move on.”

Meanwhile, winger Peters could be set for an extended stay in Dorset after Bradbury confirmed talks were under way to continue his loan spell.

Signed on an initial one-month deal on September 22, the Canadian international is interested in remaining with Cherries after making five appearances since joining from Ipswich Town.

Bradbury said: “I spoke to Paul Jewell (Ipswich manager) on Friday and we are going to speak again today about the possibility of trying to keep him.

“He has worked really hard for the team. He is an explosive player.

“He needs to isolate himself a little bit more in one against one situations, but we are working on that with him.

“He does a really good shift for the team and is a team player, as well as an individual that can change a game.”
