AGENT Barry Neville believes Charlie Sheringham could be a chip off the old block after drawing comparisons with his famous father Teddy Sheringham.

Neville, who has acted for some of the game’s top stars, has this week been brokering a deal to bring the 23-year-old striker to the Seward Stadium.

Sheringham junior, a prolific goalscorer at non-league level, is set to sign for Cherries from Conference South outfit Dartford today after the two clubs agreed a nominal fee.

An FA Youth Cup winner with Ipswich in 2005, Sheringham has been handed another chance in the pro ranks after failing to make the grade with either Crystal Palace or Charlton Athletic.

He also spent a fortnight with Cherries as a 16-year-old.

His father Teddy won numerous honours, most notably the Treble with Manchester United in 1998-99. He also scored in the 1999 Champions’ League final against Bayern Munich.

However, having started out as an apprentice with Millwall, Teddy only started to find his goalscoring touch when he was in his early 20s.

Neville, who also represented Teddy, told the Daily Echo: “Charlie is a talented lad who is probably a late developer, a bit like his dad.

“Teddy didn’t really crack it in the professional game until he was a little bit older so Charlie is following in his footsteps.”

Cherries finally confirmed their interest in the player yesterday afternoon.

• The Echo yesterday requested interviews with Eddie Mitchell, Steve Fletcher, Lee Bradbury and Charlie Sheringham. These were all declined by the club.
