BOSS Steve Riley is hoping Bashley can avoid another slaying when they take to the FA Trophy trail against his former club Worthing tomorrow.

Riley, a big favourite with Rebels followers during his playing days in the early 1990s, has already seen Bash come a cropper against lower-ranked opposition in the FA Cup this season.

And after their shock exit at the hands of Combined Counties Hartley Wintney, Riley will be desperate to side-step another giant-killing when Bash host visitors from Division One South of the Ryman League (3pm).

Riley said: “It is important we try to have a good run in the FA Trophy, especially after going out of the FA Cup at such an early stage. The prize money is good and it would be brilliant for the supporters and the people behind the scenes at the club.

“This is another banana skin and we have already slipped on one this season. Worthing are a step below us but are third in their league and going well. They are going to be a tough outfit.

“I just want the boys to go out to enjoy their football. We haven’t put any pressure on them this season and they have been expressing themselves and playing with confidence in the league. Hopefully, we can give our supporters something to cheer in the FA Trophy.

“I think the boys will have learned a lot from the FA Cup. It happens and sometimes you can’t put your finger on it. We just need to think we are playing a team from our division and do the right things. If we get the basics right, the quality should come through. Hopefully, we will have learned and won’t make the same mistake again but it is not going to be easy by any means.”
