DEFIANT Simon Browne insisted he would give his all to revive Hamworthy United’s fortunes and vowed: I won’t throw in the towel.

Boss Browne faced the music after Hammers’ embarrassing 7-0 home hammering at the hands of Fareham Town on Saturday – and promised not to walk away from the County Ground.

The former Poole Town captain revealed he had held talks with club chiefs to discuss Hamwor-thy’s dramatic dip in form – following a sequence that has seen them win just once in nine Wessex Premier matches.

But he remains determined to turn things round.

Browne told the Daily Echo: “I had a chat with the chairman and vice-chairman about where things, perhaps, weren’t going right.

“They are entitled to ask me and that is the nature of being a manager – you have to carry the can if things don’t go well.”

Browne, who guided Hamworthy to the top of the division earlier in the campaign before their fall from grace, continued: “It is always likely to happen at some point in your career – that you get sacked or get questions asked. But I am not going to throw in the towel.

“I said on Saturday to Bruce Scammell (chairman) and Steve Harvey (vice-chairman) that if they decided I wasn’t the right man, I wouldn’t have a problem.

“But I assured them I wouldn’t throw in the towel and assured them I would be doing everything I could to turn it round.”

Browne admitted Saturday’s defeat had ranked as the worst of his distinguished non-league career as a player and manager.

“It was probably the worst result of my footballing career in terms of numbers and it has been a horrendous few weeks, all things considered,” said Browne.
