BOSS Ken Vaughan accused players of having a bad attitude after revealing his FA Vase selection had caused upset in the Poppies ranks.

Vaughan claimed un-named members of the Victoria Park squad had “lost it a little bit” after he had confirmed his team choices for the quarter-final clash against West Auckland Town on Saturday.

The Bournemouth manager opted to make changes from the side which had beaten Billingham Synthonia in the previous round – and it appears those tough calls left some players feeling aggrieved.

Jake Rowley and Kane Daysh started the game against Synners but were not named in the matchday 16 for the 2-0 defeat against West Auckland, while there was also no place for Martin Warren, who had previously been an unused substitute.

Joe Byrne, Sean Hogan and Scott Joyce were drafted into the Poppies 11, with Fawzi Saadi dropping to the bench.

Vaughan told the Daily Echo: “A few lads were disappointed they didn’t get in on Saturday. The attitude has been pretty bad, to say the least.

“I can only put it down to extreme disappointment. Some didn’t make the squad and some didn’t make the team, and two or three of them just lost it a little bit.

“I wouldn’t want them to be anything other than upset or disappointed.

“You don’t want a happy substitute – you want them to get into the team.

“But I feel the situation is that it is a team effort – it is not just about 11 players. It is about a squad and some of them haven’t got the mentality to tune into that.”

Vaughan included dual registered Poole Town striker Joyce – who also played against Royston Town in the fourth round – in his starting line-up.

“But Vaughan insisted the move to introduce the former Poppies striker had not caused problems.

He added: “He has played here before so that wasn’t a problem. We have lacked strikers all season.

“We got in Max Cream and Jack Swann, but he was cup tied, so Joycey was brought in to do a job for us up front.

“He didn’t take anybody else’s place up there.”

Poppies return to league action when they host Moneyfields in the Wessex Premier tonight (7.45pm).
