WIMBORNE secured their place in the last 16 of the national under-17 trophy with a 29-15 home win over Maidenhead at Leigh Park.
The hosts made an excellent start and scored a try in the first 10 seconds.
Wimborne caught the ball from the kick-off before passing it down the line for Joe Bartlett to score.
Despite having the wind against them in the opening period, Wimborne showed great character to go into the interval with an impressive 15-0 advantage.
Maidenhead, however, weren’t going to give up without a fight and hit back with a well-rehearsed try.
For the rest of the match it was end-to-end action with both teams playing hard rugby.
The hosts’ other try scorers were Jack Mason (2), Rob Gibbs and Kris Porcher, while Toby Lawrence made two con versions.
Wimborne’s victory earned them a tie against Henley in Oxford on Sunday.
