REIGNING mini champions Wimborne under-12s will defend their Dorset & Wilts title at Devizes next month.
The Leigh Park youngsters qualified for the round robin competition by winning their Dorset decider 7-0 against Dorchester.
Max Hewson opened the scoring with the only forward try of the match, while centre Robbie Tolcher celebrated a hat-trick. Alex Mason and Jack Taylor completed the rout.
Wimborne had won their three pool matches against Sherborne (1-0), North Dorset (5-1) and Oakmeadians (6-1) to top their table and earn a knockout tie against the other league’s runners-up Dorchester.
Second pool winners Bournemouth, meanwhile, secured their place at the finals on April 1, with a 2-1 win over North Dorset.
The top scorer for Wimborne in the group stage was Will Butt who notched up the only try against Sherborne. He went on to score doubles in the other pool matches.
David Bourne was second highest with a group tally of four tries, which included a hat-trick against Oaks.
Wimborne and Bournemouth will compete against two Wiltshire teams in a round robin competition to decide the Dorset & Wilts title.
There are 13 players per team in mini rugby, which is played on half-sized pitches. Under-12s is the final age level before the move to full 15-a-side matches.
