DAVE Ewen’s penalty a minute from time handed Bournemouth Poppies a fourth consecutive league victory as Ken Vaughan’s men defeated Totton & Eling 1-0 last night.
Both sides were thankful to their goalkeepers in the first half as Poppies stopper Kenny Vaughan made three saves, while his opposite number Steve Mowthorpe clawed debutant Sean Leadbetter’s header out of the bottom corner.
Phil Ward kept out another Leadbetter effort with a goal-line clearance before the break.
In the second half, Luke Ingram was denied a Poppies penalty seven minutes from time but when the hosts were handed a late spot kick, Ewen made no mistake to seal the points.
Poppies boss Vaughan said: “I thought we deserved it.”
Poppies: Vaughan, Crow, Jackson, Byrne, Crutcher, Leadbetter, Ingram, Cream, Ewen, Saadi, Swann (Hogan, 59). Unused subs: Watt, McGrath, Molyneaux, Frampton (g/k).
