GRAHAM Kemp wants Christchurch to put another nail in the relegation coffin of Hayling United – and says he would be happy to see the back of the Humbugs.

Priory boss Kemp believes the Hampshire outfit’s current facilities at Hayling College are not good enough for the Wessex Premier.

His comments come after Hamworthy United boss Simon Browne labelled the playing surface “a cabbage patch” following Hammers’ defeat at the venue in January.

Christchurch, 3-1 winners at Hayling last month, will be bidding to heap more misery on the bottom-placed Humbugs when they meet at Hurn Bridge tonight (7.45pm).

Kemp told the Daily Echo: “I have a great deal of sympathy with the management and players at Hayling but, based purely on their facilities, I think most people in the Wessex League hope they get relegated.

“None of my players look forward to going there and their lads do well to play on that pitch every other week. I am not being derogatory to their players and management because they are making the best of what they have got and there is only so much they can do.

“The main problem is that there is no water supply to the pitch so it is virtually in the same condition at the start and end of a season.

“It is all very well using your facilities to your advantage but I think the Wessex League should force them to do something about it because, in my opinion, the pitch is not up to standard.

“Having hard standing and a certain number of seats are all very well when it comes to ground grading but I think the playing surface should take precedence.

“Sometimes, I think the onus is on looking after supporters rather than looking at the playing facilities and they should be uppermost.”

Priory, who are without the services of James Burden due to suspension and Colin Dand through injury, will be looking to complete a hat-trick of Hurn Bridge wins following victories over Brading and Romsey in the past fortnight.
