SWANAGE & Wareham played their part in a hugely successful weekend for Dorset rugby by beating South West One East leaders Maidenhead.
Relegation-threatened Swans edged out the Berkshire side 27-25 at Braywick Park adding another dramatic result to Bournemouth’s edgy 27-26 triumph over Chinnor.
The home side were first on the scoreboard with a penalty, before Charlie Parish converted his own try to make it 7-3 early on.
Parish followed up his exploits with a drop goal to increase Swans’ advantage and Jason Chadwick’s try in the corner on the half-hour had the visitors in dreamland.
Chadwick then doubled his personal tally as Swans made a mockery of the league table to lead 22-3 at half-time.
The hosts, however, came out all guns blazing after the interval and quickly reduced the arrears with a catch-and-drive try.
Swans flanker Audie Jones, though, forced his way over to make the score 27-8, before Maidenhead once again fought back with a second try.
With 12 minutes remaining, the home side made the score 27-20 with a converted try before adding another five points moments later.
Fortunately for Swans, the conversion was missed and the Purbeckers clung on.
