IT took a special goal from United’s Drew Campbell to secure his side their first BYFL Cup success against a spirited Merley team.
Campbell struck a superb left-foot volley from the edge of the box, halfway through the second half, to clinch Branksome a hard-fought victory.
“It was a screamer of a goal worthy of winning any match,” said United boss Lee Wildish.
Branksome will be looking to win their third Dorset Cup on Sunday. The reigning champions also have an outside chance of retaining their league title.
Merley manager Lee Purton, meanwhile, was proud of the club’s first cup finalists. He said: “There was great sportsmanship shown by both clubs, which is a credit to all concerned.”
