POOLE Town old boy Micky Hubbard is desperate to put a spoke through his former club’s promotion hopes – but is also keen to see them go up.

The cultured midfielder spent three-and-a-half years with the Dolphins before crossing the divide to join arch Dorset rivals Wimborne earlier this season.

Hubbard, who netted the winner for Poole in their Boxing Day derby victory over the Magpies, will line up for Wimborne in the rematch at Tatnam on Easter Monday (11am).

He told the Daily Echo: “It is going to be weird going back to Tatnam, especially walking into the away dressing room. It will also seem a bit strange walking out next to them rather than with them.

“The banter has already started but it is all good natured between the players. It makes me laugh that a lot of people think we all hate each other when the truth is that we all get on well.

“The Poole supporters rib us for being their reserves and some of them have accused me of spitting out my dummy when I left. There were a few reasons but that is all in the past now. The decision was made and I love it at Wimborne. I didn’t think I would enjoy it as much as I have.”

Former Cherries apprentice Hubbard, who has scored twice in six games for Wimborne, won Poole the bragging rights when he netted from the penalty spot at Cuthbury on Boxing Day.

His winner, however, did not go down too well with girlfriend Tiani or Jim Cole, the sister and father of Wimborne defender Jordan Cole.

“It was a great feeling to score,” said Hubbard. “Jim gave me a horrible pair of green boxer shorts as a secret Santa present and, as a joke, I said I would flash them if I scored. I pulled down my shorts after I had scored and got booked for my celebration!

“I would love to score the winner against Poole on Monday. If I do and their supporters give me stick, I have got something in the locker for them but I’m not saying what!”

The 25-year-old added: “I wish Poole all the best and who knows what will happen in the future. At the moment, I am with Wimborne and I want us to win on Monday. All the boys have made me feel welcome, just as they did at Poole. I hope Poole make the play-offs and there is no reason why they can’t go up if they do.

“We are a good side as well and could be a great team in a couple of years if we stick together. We just need to learn the ugly side of the game, the non-league way as such. Technically, we have got some great players and we are heading in the right direction.”
