BOSS Steve Cuss is adamant Wimborne Town will reap the rewards next season following his painstaking Cuthbury rebuilding job this term.

Magpies have gradually improved during a transitional campaign and are currently enjoying a promising run of form.

Matt Kemble’s second-half equaliser earned Wimborne a 1-1 home draw with Didcot Town on Saturday, the result leaving Magpies with just one defeat in their past six matches.

Cuss, in his first managerial position, was forced to make wholesale changes during the summer after being left with just three players on his books.

After experimenting with a number of untried Southern League rookies, Cuss believes he has found the right blend of young talent and experience.

His side will come in for a stern examination in this morning’s derby showdown with rivals Poole Town at Tatnam (11am).

But Cuss is confident that the hard work is beginning to pay off for Magpies, who have been boosted by the recent signings of seasoned non-league performers such as former Dolphins duo Micky Hubbard and Tom Jeffes.

Manager Cuss told the Daily Echo: “We have used quite a number of players in trying to establish a side and squad that we think is good enough for the Southern League, and I don’t think we are far off it.

“We are pleased with the current squad and it has just taken a bit of time to get to where we feel we need to be.

“We are happy with the players we have got at the moment and, hopefully, we can keep them together and bring in, maybe, one or two additions to the squad during the summer.”

Anaclet Odhiambo fired visitors Didcot into a 37th-minute lead at Cuthbury before Magpies bounced back in style after the break.

Playmaker Hubbard rattled the woodwork with a 25-yard free-kick before Kemble earned a point with a fine individual goal 16 minutes from time.
