PHOEBE Dowson starred as the King’s Park track and field season opened with the John Rumbold Memorial Meeting.

English Schools’ discus champion Dowson – one of many Bournemouth AC athletes to take up throwing under Rumbold’s supervision – threw 44.48m to top the early UK under-20 women’s rankings. She also achieved a 26.01m hammer victory.

Dorchester AC’s Megan Tuck won both senior discus (36.58m) and shot (9.35m).

BAC celebrated javelin wins by Natalie Whisken (under-17, 35.18m) and Ben Dickinson (under-15, 30.61m), while Poole Runner Denzil Guy’s 41.09m was second in the under-17 event.

Poole AC under-15 Ashleigh Power began her first full season of hammer throwing with a monster 41.34m to go second in the national rankings. She also won her shot competition with 9.22m.

PAC’s Steffi Wilson followed her recent England Athletics 60m indoor silver with an impressive sprint double (12.1s and 24.6s), while Dorchester’s Rachel Dumbrell clocked 43.7s in the under-15 300m.

BAC’s Bradley Pickup (6.96m) and Peter Mitchell (6.59m) achieved a senior high jump one-two, with Poole AC under-20 Jack Roach (1.95m) and BAC under-17 Matthew Aldridge (1.90m) also among the winners.

BAC duo Emily Orford (under-17, 1.65m) and Rosie Wootten (under-15, 1.50m) each took second places, while Poole AC’s Gabrielle Rowsell scored an under-20 high and long jump double (1.65m and 5.58m).

BAC under-15 Patrick Sylla was the pick of the triple jumpers (12.27m) and won his long jump with 5.71m.
