LOAN star Lewis Tallack is keen to put talk of his future on the back-burner and focus his attention on helping Poole Town realise their promotion dream.

Tallack, a first-year professional with Championship strugglers Portsmouth, has been a revelation since joining the Southern League outfit last month.

The 19-year-old has featured in five wins and a draw as Poole have moved to within touching distance of securing a play-off place in Division One South & West.

Waterlooville-based Tallack, who is out of contract at Fratton Park in the summer, divides his time between training with Pompey and turning out for the Dolphins.

Victory for Poole at Tiverton tomorrow would clinch a play-off place – while defeat for Pompey at Doncaster would all but seal their relegation to League One.

“Things have gone brilliantly for me since I came to Poole,” said Tallack. “We have had five wins and a draw and I am enjoying every minute of it.

“The standard is good unless you get dragged into playing the long ball. We did that in one of our recent games and it developed into a scrap. We are a decent footballing team though.

“I am just taking things one game at a time. If we could get three points against Tiverton, it would guarantee a play-off place.

“The Portsmouth result will be the first one I will look for after the game. To be honest, whether they stay up or go down, I will always support them.

“I moved to Waterlooville when I was two and have been at Portsmouth since I was 14. My family and friends are all Pompey supporters.”

Tallack was handed his first pro contract by former boss Steve Cotterill a year ago and had been due to join Pompey on a tour to America in July before injury forced him to stay behind. The teenager confirmed he had had no dialogue with Pompey regarding a new deal.

He added: “I haven’t discussed it with the manager or my agent. I am just taking things one game at a time. I haven’t really thought about the possibility of joining Poole but it would be something I would consider.”

Tallack will remain at Tatnam for the remainder of the season and would be available for the play-offs should Poole qualify.

Poole boss Tom Killick, who is likely to be without defender Lamin Dibba for the rest of the season after he recently became a father, said: “We have been fortunate with loan players and Lewis has been very strong for us.

“We have been without Lamin, who has been one of our most influential players, and have managed to plug the gap, firstly with Rhys Baggridge and now with Lewis. To have Lewis until the end of the season is a boost. I couldn’t say whether he is happy of not because he doesn’t say too much!”
