KNIGHTON Heath junior Jack Baker has become one of the youngest ever winners of the Henderson Trophy at Dudsbury.
The 14-year-old overcame two more experienced Ferndown players in the matchplay phase to lift the prestigious Dorset junior silverware.
Baker got off to a storming start in the final of the under-18 event against Dominic Knight, winning four of the first five holes. He began with a birdie three, par three, and a third successive three at the 404-yard third hole.
Knight won his first hole at the sixth, before Baker hit back with a birdie at the next to restore his four-hole advantage.
Baker extended his lead when he put his tee shot to within 10 feet at the demanding 195-yard par three 11th hole before seeing out the match at the 14th.
Earlier in the day, Baker toppled Ferndown’s Harry Mann 4&2 in the quarter-finals, while Knight beat Came Down’s Sam Roles 3&1.
Baker began the matchplay phase with a 3&2 win over Noel Campbell from Yeovil.
The top 16 players from the strokeplay qualifiers made it through to the matchplay stage earlier this month.
Broadstone’s Jordan Howlett topped the charts thanks to a one-under-par 70 at Lyme Regis.
With the two best scores from four rounds to count, Howlett was level-pegging with club-mate Billy-Joe Bugden on 152.
Howlett, however, claimed the Keith Durbin Salver on countback.
• Weymouth’s George Hawkins won the Peter Alliss Masters Trophy with a 6&5 win over clubmate Ben Graham at Ferndown last weekend.
The pair secured their place in the final with victories over defending champion Ben Small and Oscar Perry (both Parkstone), respectively.
