You might have heard that Lucy suffered a cut to the head during our training in Cadiz recently – but we are lucky that we have a medical team to help prepare us for the Olympics.
We don’t normally endure nasty injuries but last year we had a big accident at the beginning of the season.
I fell off our boat but, unfortunately unlike Lucy, I didn’t land in the water but on concrete, which was not quite so forgiving.
With help from all the team, though, everything was fixed quite quickly and I was back racing within three months.
The support team we have includes a physiologist who organises our aerobic programme, a strength and conditioning coach for our weights programme and a physio for our core and recovery work.
We also monitor our heart rate each morning to check for early signs of illness.
All of our support team will be monitoring these programmes with our coach to check that we peak at the right times and cut back if we’re getting too tired or injured.
The main focus is now very clearly on the Games.
We have been training in Weymouth this week ahead of our next World Cup event.
We still have more competitions ahead of the summer but, essentially, all of these are just training sessions/rehearsals up to the Olympics.
It doesn’t matter how we perform in them as long as we use them effectively to work towards the result we want at the Games.
Thanks for your continued support.
