COACH Alan Willows has targeted a double trophy haul ahead of Dorset’s opening one-day clash of the season.
Willows is keen for his men to “hit the ground running” when they take on Buckinghamshire in the MCCA Trophy at Sherborne School tomorrow (11am).
Minor Counties champions in 2010 and Knockout Trophy runners-up at Lord’s in 2006, Dorset struggled last season, with player changes and unavailability hindering the defence of their three-day crown.
Willows told the Echo: “I am very optimistic. We have got a nicely balanced side of senior and junior players, a one-day squad and a three-day squad and I’m sure we’ll give a very good account of ourselves.
“We’re looking to win both trophies. I’m just hoping that, when the big moments arrive, the players respond in a positive way. I want success.”
Ciaran Quinn could make his Dorset one-day debut tomorrow, while fellow youngster Michael Porter, a Poole-based Hampshire Academy prospect, is also named in contention. Bowler Stefan Jones comes into the 12-man squad, with Bournemouth paceman Matt Metcalfe unavailable.
Willows added: “There is a nice balance of senior and junior players and this puts the club in a great position for the next five to 10 years.
“Stefan Jones is not just a good asset off the field, but on it too. He will give us control and confidence when we most need it.”
