MANAGER Simon Browne wants Hamworthy United to find a suitable replacement for outgoing chairman Bruce Scammell but is warning that candidates will have “big boots to fill”.
Scammell, who has been associated with Hammers for more than 20 years, is due to relinquish his position at the end of the season.
Hammers play their final match of the Wessex Premier campaign at Brading Town tomorrow (3pm), with the game set to mark the end of the most successful chairmanship in the club’s recent history.
During Scammell’s six years at the helm, Hamworthy have risen from the Dorset Combination to the Wessex League, as well as winning the Dorset Premier League (twice), Dorset Senior Cup and Wessex League Cup.
Boss Browne told the Daily Echo: “I was aware that it was a possibility that Bruce would be stepping down.
“It will impact on what happens at the club because of what he has done in his time here. Bruce has pretty much been Mr Hamworthy United and what he has done shouldn’t be underestimated.
“They are big boots to fill but, hopefully, the club will be able to get someone in who I will be able to work with and we will take it from there.”
Scammell, 59, is expected to remain on the committee at the County Ground.
